Seems like a really cool piece of kit, the fact that it's an analog drummachine and it has the random functions plus the price make it very appealing to me.
I'm not completely convinced of the sound yet though, I want to hear the deepness and fatness of the bassdrum and the snap and clang of the snare.
good deals with: the_brow, phantasmagorovich, alexsga, DarkAxel, goroth, The Wood Wizard, Tendollarcat, vbps, monkeydancer, intothegroove, Brobee

They go through a lot of the sounds here:

Thanks for posting the vid.
So far I only really like the bassdrum dry, the snare / clap seems to sound quite cheesy, not to speak of the other sounds.
With distortion it was quite a bit better though.

He does seem to have a point about drum machines sounding a lot better through distortion. Also, I've never heard a clap sound that didn't sound cheesy; I just really don't like claps :idk:

Saturation, compression, and some kind of speaker-like resonance are as indispensable to drum machines as they are to electric guitars, imo. Even some of the flattest, corniest electronic drum sounds come alive when you juice them up.

One fun to way to use electro claps is to get crazy with pitch and filtering. Pitch it down a lot and you get gunshot sounds, pitch it up and you can get an alternative to hihats and maracas.

Yeah, I remember dicking around with an original 808, what a piece of crap that was, as a box on itself it sounded like utter shit, completely ridiculous.
I don't like claps either but this Drumbrute doesn't even seem to have a decent snare sound going from the vids so far.

I also think it's rad that you can have the whole pattern at one level of swing and the have one specific instrument at a higherr level of swing.

Listening to more demos, I do think a 909-like snare would be more useful to me than the 808 style, which I'm not a big fan of.

I'm still not too picky with how it sounds. I love the price and the functionality. Plus if/when I get one, I'll be running it straight into Pretty Years, which'll just be gnarly

Yeah Ive thought about that pairing too  feel like they would be ultra rad together. Filters on filters.

Yeah the rest of it is so good that I'm still interested, if anything it will be a good challenge to try to squeeze more sounds out of the snare. Plus if I'm hooking it up to my DAW, I'll be recording all the MIDI data too, so worst case scenario I'll replace the snare if I wanna.

There seems to be enough voices that layering to get a snare shouldn't be too limiting, & that flam per voice feature could make things even more interesting. Like flammed a clap underneath a snappy snare seems pretty rad in theory.

The fact that drum machine claps sound a little cheesy = where the fun lies.

the Trend Cycle™ is about due for some raunchy electroclash, which is of course impossible without cheeseclaps.
