I fully believe that there is such a thing as objectively great tone. You hear it in an amplified electric guitar’s great clarity and depth, a harmonic content that is sweet, compelling and exciting to the ear without ever being harsh or shrill, and excellent dynamics with an expressive blend of attack and compression.

This is not to say that there’s only one type of great guitar tone. You can achieve it with near infinite variety. It’s also not to say that a tone which we might rightly assess as stellar makes it appropriate for all music.

I love that a writer is embracing this tactic -- there is an objective right and wrong that cannot be quantified or measured except with useless rhetoric... I mean that's fun as hell -- but I am horrified that this should have any place outside of somewhere to bullshit.

Which ones do you have ? I see them in shops regularly, I might have to spend some time trying them (but testing effects in music shops is usually not super happy happy fun time)...

Oh, only had the Shooting at the Moon, which was really impressive. Very interested in the Mandala, and would also love to try the Pororoka, Aurora and Beaaam!. Dude makes a lot of cool stuff, and is great to deal with as well.

the knobs are REALLY close together, but tweaking it hasn't been an issue for me.

Awesome, good to know! He really makes interesting stuff, seems to pretty much be aimed at the glitchy, videogamey part of the ILF-demographic. I'm not a fan of mini-pedals, but the banananas are pretty damn cute.

Oh, and dude, what does your live setup look like anyway? Not sure I've ever seen it, but based on your music I think I'd like it.

^ haha kb's got it. getting some things together for a show this weekend so i snapped a quick pic.
like to keep it pretty simple these days. i just sample everything into the SP.
bringing one box instead of a myriad of gear is a lot easier/(&safer) to manage.
up until a couple weeks ago i had a generation loss smashed in there.

Sweet board.

The wife and kiddo dragged me into a crystal store this afternoon. As much as I dislike all the insence. They had chakra bowls. Totally rad little mallet instruments that I was unaware of. Would be rad to throw a contact mic on and run into a looper. Which I am sure is not an original idea.
