LPB clone

Post by fuzzmax »

Hi! I am new to the world of the DIY effects and I am really addicted by this.....but my knowledge of electronic is very little. I read a lot on this forum and I must say that it is a great place to find infos of people a lot more experienced that I am. Anyway, I have a question for a LPB clone that I made. It sounds terryfic in my amp effects loop (orange rockerverb 50) but horrible in front of it. On a Marshall JCM800 with no effects loop, it does sound better when in front but when plugged before or after a metal zone, the boost doesn't do that much. Is there anyone with a trick to make it sound well in front of an amp?

:idk: Mine sounds good in front of everything (vintage lpb2 though, there are some minor differences)

I'm no expert, but...

Is this with the amp running clean or dirty? If dirty, that means you have maxed out the available headroom in the first stage of the amplifier. Try backing off the gain on the amp and seeing if that helps.

Running before Metal Zone probably won't do much, because there's enough freaking gain in that pedal already. Running after should sound like the Metal Zone, but louder, if you have enough clean headroom on the amp.

Headroom is important with boosts. You're not really increasing actual volume, but gain, which can result in an increase in perceived volume as a result. Eventually you run out, and then instead of getting louder you just start distorting more, and with certain amps and pedals, they're already so distorted that you won't be able to tell the difference anyway.
