No kidding. Stunning guitars. A baritone super glide would be the biz. Shit even one of the PBG builds. Seems like a cool guy as well.sylnau wrote:

I've never liked the Marshall sound. Can't help it. I've never been big on Fender sound either, although I prefer it to Marshall. And I think pedals sound better with Vox amps. Currently using an old Marshall while waiting to get a new amp. I really hate the sound of Marshalls. What kinda Marshall we talking about?
Fwiw...I replaced my AC30 with an AC15C2 cause the 30 was too much for home use. Turned out the AC15C2 was still way overkill, even though I don't even play super quiet at home...
Also, Marshall style amps get alone WAY better with pedals imo. Especially plexi/super lead types, though the jmp's and jcm's I used to have were also good pedal slaves.

Like DD, I'm not a shredder. I'm all about that texture, and the mellow break-up that you get from a top-boost VOX is spectacular for just that.

35-50w best tier imo. At home use cab with fairly inefficient speakers. For outdoors & big spaces use with efficient speakers.blakestree wrote:Disarm D'arcy wrote: I should mention I play clean and get all my dirt from pedlols.
I discovered a lot of dissatisfaction I had came from not working my amps. Going to small amps has brought much joy back to guitar playing.
50w half-stack rig is all-time fav combination. Not Fender, nor Vox, Marshall, Orange or Hiwatt. It's gotta be muh Selmer

Maybe amps are the reason we are married?UglyCasanova wrote: I've never liked the Marshall sound. Can't help it. I've never been big on Fender sound either, although I prefer it to Marshall. And I think pedals sound better with Vox amps. Haters gonna hate, subjects gonna be subjective![]()

Couldn't have said better!
About Marshalls, they've all felt boring to me. The driven sound is not bassy enough for my tastes and the clean sound is absolutely boring. Like harsh cold lifeless boring. Reason I sold the JMP-1 no matter how enamored I was with the total SP experience by slamming it with a muff. JCM800, JCM-900 dual reverb, that monocanal JCM-900 I can't remember the name of, the MOSFET head, even a plexi clone bored the hell out of me.
On guitar and VI, Voxs, Hiwatts, Roland JCs and the Silverface Bassman, Super and Twin speak to me. On Bass, I'm all Ampeg SVTs and B15s. And I have played on pretty much everything that isn't boutique. It's what speaks to me. A lover of clean sound with thick delays and dense reverb

Good deals: OsbornKT, Phantasmagorovich, UglyCasanova, DarkAxel, Skip, D.o.S, ColdBrightSunlight, Eivind August, Goroth

Re: Sunday GAS Party (secret santees.....be stalked here)
I tried a couple small <15watt amps with a single 10" speaker. Might've worked great for blues, jazz, maybe garage rock or something...But for me they just lacked the oomph of a 12" speaker, let alone two 12" speakers. Which is why I ended up with the AC15C2. I still don't know of another decent amp that combines 15watt with two 12" speakers
The AC15C2 *needed* to be in the top boost channel with the preamp vol cranked and the mv at least at '3', at which point my whole town could hear my shitty fuzzy riffs
But I also had/have a Traynor YBA-1, which sounds like a fire breading monster compaired to the somewhat civilised "classic" voiced vox, especially with dirt pedals. I think it's about 45watt though, and the only cab I have is a 4x12 with speakers that are...well, *too* efficient to use with the Traynor at home volumes levels
So dispite the mixed feelings I used to have about attenuators, a good attenuator turned out to be the best solution for me. I don't have to resort to a shitty practice amp amp sim, I get to use my main amp for everything. I guess an inefficient 1x12" might've cost me even less, but my living room is cluttered and messy as it is, I really prefer being able to just put an attenuator on top of my half stack. I couldn't care less about all the cork sniffy anti-attenuator purist babble about 'tone loss', it'll still sound like my amp, and it'll definitelly sound A LOT better than a fender mustang amp or Line 6 pod or whatever. It's not like I'm recording my next platinum record at home anyway, so I'll live with whatever subtle tone inperfections I may get from the attenuator

Re: Sunday GAS Party (secret santees.....be stalked here)
Nothin' against clean. It's just big clean, at home, that I can't get with. My PRRI is my main clean amp. I rarely overdrive it. But, I can set the volume where it wakes up a bit without it being too loud. I like the AC4's clean, too. It's my utilitarian amp. And, while I do think the 12 in it makes it better, lows are its weak point. The box is too small and the amp doesn't make enough power. My Class 5 is always a dirty girl. I hear tell they put out more like 9-10W. Seems right. She pushes the two MOD10-50's fairly well. But, even as just a 1X10 combo, it has a little rumble. I run the bass on it around 2. Conversely, even though I like my JC-120, and it's a trannie, I always feel like I can't turn it up as much as it would like. It's getting used mostly with bass.

The more I listen to Autolux the more I want a nice, clean Ring Mod.
The tremolo effects and ring mod effects Greg gets with the Moog are just too perfect.

Still thinking about it from when I tried my buddy's. It was so random and cloudy that it felt impossible to wrap my brain around it.
