Triggered Flanger/Phaser?

Post by elbandito »

Does such a thing exist? A flanger or phaser that restarts the sweep when a new note or chord is played? I'd like to use something like this on my Wurlitzer, instead of the vibrato that comes built in.

Could an existing flanger be modded to do this?

Yup,

With the Eventide ModFactor, using MIDI, you can have any effect reset its cycle, including tremolo. You can also have it trigger an envelope to control the depth or speed modulation. And your presets can be saved. And a lot more.

the EHX Polyphase has envelope controlled phasing and there are a couple others i can't remember right now...
i've only ever seen one envelope flanger and that's the Foxrox, and it is the most fun thing ever :thumb:

You could use envelope CV to modulate the "mix" knob on a Moog Phaser to bring the effect in and out, but the cycles wouldn't necessarily be in sync. These other ones these guys are mentioning sound super interesting too!

Technically, when used properly, the A/DA Flangers Threshold setting does this... have a little look up on info on it.

There are couple phasers that do this. You'll usually see it described as an envelope phaser. The EHX Stereo Polypase has an envelope mode that does exactly this. and I have one for sale in the BST :poke: :poke:

IIRC the threshold control makes the effect more prominent when you have more attack, not that the sweep starts when you trigger the envelope

The digitech phase and flange both do this, and it can be triggered to be an upward sweep or a downward sweep
