Recommend me a sequencer

Post by repoman »

I used to be really into synths about 6-7 years ago or so, I sold them all, went to computer stuff and quickly gave up because I found I hate computers for music production.

I've recently gotten back into synths and picked up a couple and I'm looking for a sequencer/drum machine for them. I had been running a mechinedrum uw+ and a monomachine sf6 doing the sequencing back then and really really liked the elektron stuff, so I have an eye on a octatrack now but was wondering if you guys had any other suggestions for something that can serve as a drum machine and a sequencer. Some kind of Electribe? Standalone sequencer+a dedicated drum machine?

Everyone says good things about the squarp pyramid.

I think oberkorn is pretty neat, but probably not going to fit your needs.

Yamaha SU/QY stuff might be good.

I use a korg sq-1, and it gets the job done for me. Mostly cause it supports clocking volcas/pocket operators, so if you plan on using those that's an option.

You seem to be more into higher end stuff though, in that case personally I'd look at the beatstep pro

That looks really nice. Seems to be sold out until late 2016 though

Yeah they're most likely releasing a batch by the end of the year. No preorders or anything though, so sign up for the list/follow on FB.

It's fucking rad, though. Polyphonic, great sounding swing, the cool function pin feature, those 808/909 style buttons. I have a similar block when it comes to using computers—I can do it but I don't enjoy it and am met with so many more obstacles in the creative process. This thing just seems very, very useful.

!! it's got cv out, bring it next time! :thumb:
It does!! I got it like 2 weeks ago. Gotta chain our pocket operators too. Oh, and my 8-step has cv-out if you want to sequence your pedlols

If you like the Elecktron way of doing things, then there's nothing really like it in hardware... An Octatrack is probably a good idea then.
