pricing a damaged pedal for sale

Post by lost in music »

I have a pedal that I'm getting ready to flip. My original asking price would probably be $100. However, it's got a scratchy pot and Deoxit hasn't worked. The pedal works fine in all other regards. Even the scratchy pot works mostly well as long as you aren't twiddling it while you're playing. How much do you think I should knock off the price?

What about a new potentiometer? Wouldn't cost too much and you can sleep nice and sound again. ;)

Nah, I'm terrible at diy pedal shit. I would then have an actually broken pedal and no money.

Full price, just PLEASE be clear about that issue. Add a "make offer" thing maybe.

Yeah, I'm always transparent about the pedals condition. I usually hate the "make an offer" stuff, but in this case it could be beneficial. Good idea.

That worked out well. I included the "make an offer" thing and a guy made me an offer for 20% off, which was what I was thinking of pricing the pedal down to anyway. So he got to feel good about his discount. I got to unload a pedal without a lot of worry and hassle. It all worked out.

I'm thinking about doing the same thing with a couple guitars of mine, which I'm a little more nervous about because selling used guitars online is a totally different thing than flipping pedals.

I've had this G&L ASAT Tribute that I've had for years and last year bought another G&L Tribute. Back in March I got a wild hair up my ass to swap the necks on them, but even though the necks fit they needed to be filled and redrilled so the screws would line up. I took them to a local luthier and he obliged and did the swap. Cut to several months later and I barely play one of them and haven't touched the other SINCE the neck swap and I'm WAY more interested in playing bass now.

Is trying to sell one or both of these damn things going to be a total fool's errand at this point? I'd probably list them "as-is" "project", set a moderately low used price for them and include a "make an offer" option. I feel like I should seek psychological treatment for doing the fill-and-drill thing with the necks.
