I know black coffee makes me jittery, but it feels so damn good to be caffeinated and play melee.

My girlfriend spends an obscene amount of money on Starbucks.
So my current plan is to get a moka pot and just make a big-ass pitcher of mocha junk each week.

Do it man. Making your own stuff is waaaaaaay cheaper. If you know what your doing, it often tastes better too.

Moka pots are awesome, but they make pretty gnarly, stout coffee and it's pretty easy to burn. If you're trying to be in the neighborhood of Starbucks, if maybe go for a French press instead, or an Eva Solo (little more expensive, but a lot less of a pain to clean).

I've been using a French press for a year now, having converted from stovetop percolator.
Being able to control the water temperature is a gamechanger, 190-195' F is the money range.
Using 8+ pH water is also legendary. Brews are so much more intense, even when soaked for <5min.

Fresh ground beans per brewing is crucial. Currently finishing off a bag of Peet's from Guatemala.
It's a great 3rd option to my preferred Jamaica Blue Mtn or Hawaiian Kona.

That was probably the smartest move you've ever made (aside from some of your gear choices). :thumb:

 It's a challenge, having expensive taste & humble budget. Consider this though, I stretch a pound of beans about 3 weeks.
So even the $30/lb stuff is only like $10/week on coffee. (vs 1.5 trips to Starbucks :whoa:) Worth it.

The old tenants of this apt left a french press. So now I have a french press.

This is a positive development in my life, I'm sure.

Yeah I feel like a grinder is the no.1 best thing a person can buy to step up the coffee game. Then dive in to the endless array of brew methods :D

The Guatemalan's a good compromise. May be the tastiest Central American coffee (although I tend to like Costa Ricans as well). :snax:

Sell the machine or gut it and make a weird audio device out of the electronics. :hobbes:
Use the pods in a regular drip coffee machine...after you open them and dump their contents into a standard filter.
Proprietary single serving coffee solutions are a waste of money, plastic and produce excess plastic waste.
It's like eating with *disposable* cutlery every day or using dixie cups instead of washing mugs & glasses :|:

Pods are the enemy of good coffee. Just Craigslist that shit!

I agree, I generally don't use them but it was one of those "hey you like coffee, so here's something that makes coffee" gifts.

I may try to sell the machine, pods for this thing are stupid expensive anyway, especially when I already have an espresso machine that does a very good job.
