Hello, I have been lurking around here for a few weeks but this is my first post. I hope that I am putting it in the right place. I have a modest little bedroom practice rig and I am trying to decide what is the best way to hook it all up. I have been playing a slightly modified eastwood baritone through a fender bassman compact solid state amp. I recently added a kustom double barrel with the intention of slaving the two amps together, but I have a few different options. I plan to try them all and go with what sounds best, but I am traditionally more of a classical guitarist so amps are still kind of new to me...would like to make sure I am not in danger of blowing either of these amps.
The fender is a 50 watt solid state with a 15 inch speaker and an fx loop. The kustom is a 30 watt 2x12 solid state with a line out that does not defeat the internal speakers. I had originally intended to either feed the guitar to the amps through a crossover or take the input two from the fender into the kustom. This would allow me to eq the amps independently to get the most out of them, and I had been thinking that it would be best to set the fender bass heavy with no treble and the kustom to the opposite. As I have started to experiment with the set up I am wondering if it would not be easier to just take the line out from the kustom into the power amp in on the back of the fender? I will lose the use of the fender's head by doing so, but it also leaves me with one eq/volume/etc for both amps which is a bit easier to deal with.
Which would you prefer? Is it safe to run the fender this way? I assume that it is due to both jacks being line level, and the kustom being less powerful, but I honestly am just guessing on those points. I like the idea of setting the bass amp with bass 10 mid 10 treb 0 and the kustom to 0 10 10, but using the line out is so much easier that if it is safe to do so I would prefer it.
Thanks
SMH
