Guitar and synth into same board

Post by Willem »

Hi guys, I'm playing guitar and analog synth (sub phatty) in my band and want to use both with my pedalboard (doesn't have enough cash to make two distinct boards and I don't want to have to make choices in my pedalboard setup. For exemple, I want to be able to play my CT5 with both instruments and don't want/can't have 2 of them.

I was looking into summers or mini mixers.

The cheapest option is the behringer mx400, for about 25€ it has 4 mono inputs to 1 mino output with volume knobs for each section

Then for few euros more this Thomann pocket mixer: https://m.thomann.de/fr/millenium_pocke ... 1472852846
Xlr + 2 6.35 + 1 rca to mono output (jack) or stéréo (rca)
Dunno if it's bigger but has more capabilities if I want to plug my iPad into the chain.

Rolls mini mix 44s, for 127€. Looks cool with the faders, full stereo...

Wha has one of those? Any other ideas? It has to be small in order to put it on my pedaltrain.

Take care

Why wouldn't you use a Boss LS-2?

Already have one but wanted to use it as ab box (gtr to amp, synth to PA). Can grab another one but can't add a third instrument,

Maybe this won't work for you, but since you already have your Moog on a stand or the like, I would put a small mixer next to it. Then run your guitar, synth, and iPad into the mixer and put your pedalboard on the effects send. Lots of flexibility and it may be necessary to attenuate the signal from the Phatty depending on you pedals.

Yep, it's on a stand. You recommend me to buy a more traditional mixer? like this one? https://www.thomann.de/fr/behringer_xen ... usb_281982
But I'd have to find an idea to put it next to my moog when I play live. Though I actually need to attenuate the line signal from the moog, I don't really need (I think but never really use one) the EQ on the mixer.

A mixer would be the most flexible, but maybe more complicated than you need(?).

Some more good ideas here: viewtopic.php?f=149&t=50909

Thanks for the link, I used the search function but haven't found this one.
The red panda looks cool but it's too expensive.
Unfortunately the Montreal Assembly would be cool but he doesn't make them anymore...

I would keep it simple and buy another LS-2.

you can buy extra arms to clamp onto your existing stand that add another tier, generally for a second keyboard but could hold a mixer no prob

obviously it depends on what kind synth sounds you're using and what amp you're playing through but you can also always just go directly into the amp with both synth/guitar and use the LS-2 on the front end of the pedalboard. :idk:

Well, the Sub Phatty is maybe too dangerous for my amp; I'm looking for deep basses but I don't want to blow my speaker if I make a mistake and turn the wrong knob...

what's the amp? are you specifically taking the role of playing bass or are there just bass-y parts?

My amp is a Vox AC15c1x for gigs, also play an AC4 head + its cab with a 12" speaker.
We have a bassist in our band. I play some ambient bass-y parts with effects. Do I risk something?

right on. well, i won't say whether or not you will or won't damage your speakers because i have no idea exactly the parts and sounds and volume you're playing, but i play keyboards in my band and have for many years only played through amps and we play pretty loud and i haven't fucked anything up yet. that being said, the stuff will definitely sound *different* through the amp and whether or not that sound is something you want is up to you. you should just try it at a low volume and see how you feel. baby steps.
