I grabbed a Boss GL100 on Racks' suggestion and it's awesome. Basically every analog boss dirt pedal in a 1u rack. Regularly available for under a hundo.

Yep, GL-100 is the king of the cheap options (and sounds good on anything, period, if you want it to).

If you want nasty-fun, go with one of the digital multis of the era, nastier menu-diving the better. QuadraverbGT, or for that "what have I done" digital distortion/pitch shift, ART SGE/SGX (get one that's not preset only, there are SGE/SGXs that are, you can tell by the lack of the ubiquitous rack era LCD screen). I would strongly recommend on the digital boxes with LCD to replace the screen with a modern high-contrast one (cheap, easy to do yourself, was $15-20 total on my Qverb). It will make the menu diving so much more pleasant to not have to squint at it in good (let alone bad) lighting.

Meatbox seems essential if your drum machine has an individual out for the kick. The Boss GL-100 looks cool, but again, lack of stereo-ins feels like a "Why god, why?" moment on a rack mounted device. But the ART SGE and SGX look great. I'm going to keep them shits in mind.

GL-100 wasn't intended to be mid-rig, it was a front-end with other stuff in the line. Makes sense given the standard array at the time.

Buy my old Skychord Truck Loud? Full range, 9-18v, germanium limiter if a dusty blanket is required. I'm using a Futureman mostly (not cheap but I got it used), that's also a good one with sweet EQ.

You could use a mixer and run the GL-100 as a bus-send. I do that when I want to run the whole mix(or other stereo signals through mono pedals(usually the RM-1n).

What kind of mixer do you use, out of curiosity? Been wanting to pick one up but have been at a bit of a loss as to where to start looking.

I just use a cheapo Behringer mixer. Xenyx 1202. :-)
Had it for almost 10 years. Still works.

I ended up recording some ideas with a guitar. Having the ODB3 at the end of the chain (after fuzz and reverbs) is instant kvlt, but I plan to re-amp everything through that yellow shitty box. I'm so excited!
