I miss my specter so much. :( It was as thick or as metallic as you wanted, went slow as fuck and could be pushed into a fantastically synth oscillating mess that I love.

I was watching the development of this, glad they sound good! A/DA's is good flangers.

Any chance you fancy taking the bottom off so I can see what delay chips they're using? Just personal curiosity.

These are super sick. The controls often produce unexpected and crazy results.

I wonder how this compares to the Minifooger flange. I like -/+ polarity switching on flangers.

It can do both positive and negative flanging. I love that too - they super different sounds.

Heck yeah. I think my perfect flanger would have two delay lines (LR) with each their own polarity switch and shared rate/depth/res controls.

Biflange!

@Scruffie - I took the back off. There are three pcbs stacked in there, and the delay chips are on the top PCB, jammed right up against the enclosure. I can't see what they are without removing all the jacks and knobs and the pcbs under it. I might just write and ask what chips they are using. Everything is of course smd except the delay chips.

This is what they say in the manual for the big box RI, and the little one is supposed to be identical:
TheReissuestillusesPanasonic(Matsushita)bucket brigade devices for the analog delay. They are known for their warm, rich analog sound. The original A/DA Flangers used only the Panasonic MN3010, while the reissue can also use the MN3004, MN3210 or the MN3204 to achieve the exact original A/DA sound
Fwiw here is a pic of the stacked pcbs. You can see the through hole BBDs socketed near my thumb.

I just bumped that PBF A/DA thread over on TGP for you. We'll see if we can get an answer about those chips. :snax:

Got an answer from the A/DA dude on TGP:
tholt wrote:The post for those interested in the BBDs for our PBF Flangers:

All ADA Flangers use two BBDs, whether they come in a dual package or single packages. The MN3010 is a dual; the MN3004 is a single. There are only a few BBDs that perform to our flanger specs. The first ADA Flangers used a Reticon SAD1024 analog delay, but are now out of production and not available. The Philips BBD (TDA1022) is available, and the current production is by a company other than Philips. The Panasonic BBDs are available and come in PMOS and NMOS (high voltage and low voltage) technologies. Third parties have copied the Panasonic and are producing parts at relatively low prices, such as the MN3007 and MN3207.

Some types BBDs will not work in the ADA Flangers, so we don't use them. Specifically the BBDs that do not allow for high clock rates and ones that have limited audio bandwidth. We test each BBD and reject those with low headroom or excessive noise. We also use matched sets of BBDs. ADA Flangers push the capabilities of the BBDs to their limits in order to get better audio performance – the coveted and unique ADA sound.

Our ADA PBF Flanger (and ADA REISSUE FLANGER) use a pair of low voltage MN3204 BBDs, and is our preferred part. They are a little difficult to get, but we have ample stock.

Thanks for finding that out for me! It is what I suspected but I was curious as 3204s are quite rare these days and A/DA were being cagey about the BBDs early in the development.

Thanks for the photos too Goroth, that's a damn nice build.

I really want one of these... someone put one up in B/S/T for me!

Ooft, that's cool.
Having tried enough flangers by now i kinda get the hype over the chips. Nothing i've tried has stacked up to the SAD1024 and I get all sorts of weird clock noise and stuff with 3207's.
That could be a whole other bunch of things in the circuits but i would definitely trust A/DA to know what they're doing, so i'll probably buy one of these soon-ish.
