So a while back I had an idea for a utility device. I kind of let it fall to the back of my mind, but I'm curious what y'all think of something like this, or if it's even feasible. It's definitely a niche thing, but I think the participants in this board are exactly the kind of folks who it'd appeal to.
***This is just an idea, and I have absolutely 0 technical know-how except for one time I built a fuzzface clone that wouldn't pass my signal through and I never figured out why.***
The easiest way to describe it is a master CV send with 2-4 outs. There would be one global rate knob, and maybe a MIDI input that'd allow synchronization with an external clock. Each output would then have its own attenuation knobs (like a high pass and a low pass filter, but for CV) and a 3-way multiplier switch which is applied to the global rate (something like 0.5x, 1x, & 2x). It would then send the CV through top-mounted TRS jacks, as being side-mounted would limit it to always being on a certain part of your board.
This would allow several different pedals to have synchronized CV sweeps, each one tuneable to a specific range of control. For pedals like the Super Radical Delay or Pitchfactor, where you program your own heel-down and toe-down settings, the range would obviously be best when kept to the full band, but for things like the ss/bs No Memory or the Count to 5 where heel & toe always represent the extremes, you could dial in a more mellow band.
Theoretically you can already do all of this with a few synth modules and the right cables, but I'm interested in it as a dedicated pedalboard-based utility.
What do y'all think? Is this kind of thing even possible?
Has it been done? Would anyone even want such a thing?

Moog CP-251 is pretty close, which isn't to say yours is a bad idea. The CP is pretty big and kinda unwieldy.
But there's a lot of potential for these kinds of ideas. Exp pedals are cool...and the new Source Audio one (Reflex) is cool...but I think having something a a little more accessible, knobby, and full-featured on a board would be really interesting. I think about it a lot on my way to work in the morning. Then feature-creep sets in, and I've redesigned the CP-251.
The most merciful thing in the world, I think, is the inability of the human mind to correlate all its contents.

Also, at some point you might realize that you are actually building a modular synth, which is the realization I had when patching Moogerfoogers in and out of the CP-251. Except it was way bigger, had fewer possibilities, and cost a little more than a modular synth.
So maybe head for that rabbit hole, and run your guitar through it. The Pittsburgh Patch Box could be interesting to get things started.

Check out copilot FX. Adam does that kinda stuff (with the broadcast, broadband, and bandwidth) and makes custom boxes with pretty neat options.

Damn yeah these are pretty much exactly what I described (with a little more). I figured it was too good of an idea to be new/novel hahalordgalvar wrote:Check out copilot FX. Adam does that kinda stuff (with the broadcast, broadband, and bandwidth) and makes custom boxes with pretty neat options.
