No complaints about Sade's voice. Or Miki Berenyi, Trish Keenan

Upspeak and vocal fry are [de?]evolutions of throwback 1980s nescient valley girl cadence through pop culture aping and games of telephone.
It went from a regional quirk to a national nuisance through cultural appropriation

By rule, the voices of women have a naturally higher register than those of men, which is why complaints of shrillness don't typically extend to men. Duh.
Men instead tend to be bellowing gasbag blowhards. People generally don't want to hear whiners and loud-talkers, period. I know I don't. Loud women hurt my ears in ways loud men do not. Maybe it's just how my hearing is notched.

Slurring mumblers [and hushed sweater voice, good call DoS] are bad but projected whiny vocal tone is the absolute worst. However I also can do without people who manage to sound whiny in text, like that professor of linguistics.
