Yea, for what it is it won't be cheap. The Behringer stuff is very good if the price point indicates it's not entry level garbage.
I'd also assume there will be a smaller, less voice version existant at some point as they fill out the spectrum and things are flying.

So for years, Mackie dominated the the cheap audio market. Behringer dominated the even cheaper, near disposable market. Recently they bought Midas, and used the brand name on their new products, not quite up to Midas' previous standard, on the Behringer X32.
The X32 is amazing at it's price point, but still not up to the level of the higher priced stuff most tours use. It will still handle everything well, but without that extra magic. What they also did was pack in features like the iPad remote control and so on.
It's built well, but cheaply. That is offset by the fact that it's also at a price point that most tours with it could replace it if the need arises. Also, being a budget brand for so long has taught Behringer exactly what corners they can cost.
My money is in this thing costing around 600-650, and I expect it to be worth it if that is your budget.

Thanks for the insight DRodriguez. I wouldn't be surprised if it came in costing more than that, but not hugely so. My prediction is this will fill the role the Roland Juno 6/60/106 did once upon of time, of being a really nice, well featured budget polysynth. It's not a Jupiter 8, or a CS-80, it's not meant to be. It's meant to be affordable and usable at a much lower price point, it's aimed at a wide range of musicians, it'll be mass produced and good for what it is (and what it is happens to be something really exciting to a lot of people), but it feels silly to expect anywhere near DSI/SCI quality from this.
But again, if it's a 12 voice synth that sounds good and has even the barest minimum of interesting features, it'll be on every recording for a minute. Plus the Minilogue has proven that the absurd is possible and marketable, which means maybe Novation and Arturia will finally get around to picking up that gauntlet everyone's been begging them to for years.

Oh BOO! I didn't really mess with the filter too much when I played one, i was more taken aback by how fucking stunning the oscillators sound. For those that want crazy routing options - isn't that the whole point of modular?D.o.S. wrote:I don't think the Minilogue filter is the MS filter, fwiw.
My synth background is very much based in the vintage 70s-80s keyboard market and picking up these synths on eBay and praying they weren't fucked, a lot of the new stuff coming out seems to be heading in the direction of the vst synth trend, which to me means a stupid amount of options, none of which sound particularly good. The Volca's, ms20 mini andthe Minilogue retain a kind of 'classic' sound in their oscillators and filters to my ears, other budget analog synths like the microbrute/minibrute just sound digital to me
My favourite Korg filter is the one that was in the 700s, followed by the one in my m-500, followed by the ms10/20

I'm definitely feeling it's based off the Juno, filter sounds Roland-esque and that lettering across the top/sliders are a direct rip of the Juno interface.psychic vampire. wrote:Thanks for the insight DRodriguez. This explains part of my scepticism, I've always been a Roland hater!Strange Tales wrote: I'm definitely feeling it's based off the Juno, filter sounds Roland-esque and that lettering across the top/sliders are a direct rip of the Juno interface.

Love me some Boss/Roland stuff but I've never been a big fan of their synths.

They're synths, I can use them. I'm partial to their digital pianos more than the synths, where honestly I could care less as long as it works.D.o.S. wrote:Love me some Boss/Roland stuff but I've never been a big fan of their synths.

Re: Holy Shit, Everyone Just Got Fucked On By Behringer
Roland synths (I've entered the wayback machine here and wound up in the 80s) exhibit an accuracy to design intent, utilizing proprietary parts, which resulted in a very clearly defined path of what the synth will and will not do. They lack in extreme ranges and non-linear (found, or broken sounds) operation, while some of the other "budget" stuff from the era can get gross with what was fundamentally off the shelf parts.
I'm speculating Behringer is going to be like Roland in this.
Mind you, I've only watched the first couple teasers, I've a really difficult time getting chuffed over anything Behringer.

Exactly, their synths are always pretty, no gnarl, no balls, no extremes. I'm not proclaiming them to be useless or shit in any way, I'd happily sit and play one for hours, but they are just the complete opposite of my taste in synths so I would never buy one.crochambeau wrote:Roland synths (I've entered the wayback machine here and wound up in the 80s) exhibit an accuracy to design intent, utilizing proprietary parts, which resulted in a very clearly defined path of what the synth will and will not do.
