How happy are you with YOUR setup?

Post by fetch »

Simple question really.

I think I'm the happiest I've ever been with my setup. It's simple and to the point and is now a lot more flexible since getting off my ass and organising my patch leads and pedal spots (with additions of expression pedal and looper slotting in the setup with no adjustment need).

I'm set with one acoustic and an electric. I also have a custom guitar on the way that's likely to feature a Bigsby... hinthint. But that's not for another six or so months as it's only just being built.

Amp wise I've just bought a second and I'm happy with it considering I don't gig and don't play on gigging. I have two smaller amps and will be using them in a stereo rig and doubling up that signal path with my synth going to the little SS amp.

I'm stoked!! :-)

I finally have all the sounds I want in the way that I imagined them to be (feel/sound/interact) in my head when I first started playing and associating/deciphering sounds I was hearing. I don't get GAS for any flavour I already own. I can create most the sounds I want with the little gear that I have and also the ones that I can't create as often usually shouldn't be

Out of all the combinations, I thought it'd be fun to list my favourite:

neck PAF > reverb > fuzz > od > analog delay > tape delay > amp

I'm pretty happy really. I tweak my pedal board every now and then but I've stuck with the main pedals for a while and don't see the need to change them.

As for the rest of my rig: I've had my main bass for 17 years and have changed my main amp three times in the last 18 [I still own them all though] years.

Main rig: 93 Ibanez SR505 with barts, Mesa 400+, Musicman HD212, SWR BIGBEN. Main pedals: Katana Sound Supper Bass Fuzz, Demeter Compulator, Maxon AD900, Dunlop 105Q wah, MXR phase 45, everything else changes around these.

Do you use the AD900 with bass? What are your thoughts? It's my second favourite pedal after my old Rat... :)

in my attempts to achieve minimalism (which i am striving for) i have rid myself of all ilf pedals :(

but im still happy with it. i think im just going to get a Sunny day delay to fill the ilf void.

and i got Whammy>OD>Fuzz>tremolo>phaser>chorus>Delay>Reverb>fuzz, im very happy with it

this is the closest i have ever been to tonal nirvana since i been playing...SG Standard P90 Pickups>Fender Telecaster(MIA Body MIJ Neck)>Area 51 Wah>Mountianking Megalith>SUF Son of a Bee>Skreddy Pig Mine>MrSage Crimson Alpaca>Pitch Black Tuner>Subdecay Baby Quasar>Malekko 616>Freakshow Didgilog>Radial ABY>Matamp GTO120>Orange 4x12 w/Hot 100's>Sunn Sceptre>Sunn 4x12 w/WGS HP Reapers all i can say is wow....i know i need to move my setup out of my house now and find a practice space. i like stoner, thick bass heavy riffage and this set up definitely delivers the goods :animal:

oh, i'm thinking about adding a ehx micro synth to the set up, what says you.

i just got my DBA Supersonic Fuzz Gun, I can't wait to hear it with my setup... :joy:

Yeah I do. I find it to be about the richest sounding delay I've tried outside of my Roland RE-201 [which I wont gig with] and yet very clear sounding. I use to have two of them but I traded my extra one [along with a JDI] for a musicman HD130, I have plans of picking up a second one again some day.

I, personally, am increadibly dissatisfied, but that's because I am neither a guitarist nor gainfully employed... :grumpy:

Dang, a lot of you guys have great setups.

I'd be satisfied with my setup except I need two things, a permanent looper and a daisy chain (+ some more patch cables). Otherwise I'm happy with this:

LP Studio > Chk Chk Boom (all other pedals in loop) > ID > PDS 1002 > Sonic Crayon Vibrato > Superdelay > Blues Jr. (stock)

I like the Superdelay at the end because you get a mix of pristine delay with the lo-fi sounds of the PDS 1002. The Vibrato darkens the sound and has great modulating capabilities at its disposal. The ID is for your lite overdrive or glitchy fuzz needs. And the Chk Chk Boom just gives a nice drone when you need it to for some sonic mayhem.

Of course I do have a Melxowtone 2 and a Miniberator on the way, so who knows?
Do you like listening to homemade music? Me too. Why don't you try one of mine?

Current ILF Love: OHNOHO CHK CHK BOOM, Mellowtone Melx Fuzz 2, EQD Dream Crusher, Devi Ever ID, Dr. Scientist Proto-Miniberator - new vids eventually

some mysteries are best unsolved

I am actually pretty happy w/ my set up right now.

FH Groundswell Oscillator > Modded Hyperion (hype/db/33/ruiner) > Team Awesome Fuzz Machine > Silicone B:assmaster > Wrong Side of Uranus (bit crusher) > Iron Ether LPF (soon) > Boss CE-5 > EQD Hummingbird > Dr. Sci Miniberator > DL4 > DOD FX-17 (soon)

I also got a Squire Classic Vibe Jazz bass that I am double dog in love with... one of the best basses I've played, kinda feels like it was made for me! plus I have my G&L sb-2 Tribute that I love for when I need to use a pick... I actually don't own my own amp (i use my brothers GK 800rb > 2x10 avatar > Crate 1x15)

That's about it... I've got some other random stuff, but I'm happy w/ the core of my gear, took me over a year to get there. :yay:

I'm somewhat happy.

I've finally found an overdrive that plays nice with my guitar, but i'm not completely satisfied with my delay
i feel like i have my analog delay covered, but i feel like i should have some digital delay too...

J-ro: yea, I snagged the fx17, I was actually in the market for one... :)* the hummingbird is sick, very unique and percussive trem. I really dig it! The only thing that could replace it would be a Randy's Revenge.

I'm pretty happy with my live setup. Right now, I really need a better power supply (my daisy chain is getting beat up - there's a certain point in the chain where the connector is on its way out - if it gets bumped, there's a giant "POP!" and the power goes out for a split second... time to look into a Pedal Power 2 Plus or the like), and I have to re-velcro the bottom of my board, but I can get every tone I need at the moment.

That said, I also do a lot of experimentalish home recording, so I'm always on the lookout for something new & cool. And even though my live rig works wonderfully, finding another cool thing for the board is always in the back of my mind.

I have a problem... but I don't have a problem with that!
I'm more like a mids-ist than a bassist.
