What colours look good with a maple neck/fretboard.

Post by Iommic Pope »

So I got this old Dr. Parts maple/maple strat style neck I wanna build a body for.
Thinking some kind of telemaster/Soviet Aelita kind of shape.
What colours look good with a maple fret board?
I gotta steer away from black, everything I own is black and I wanna break it up.
:snax:

Even though black looks hot.

I have a shoreline gold strat and a blonde tele, both of which have maple necks--I think both of those combos look great. I also think the blacked out strat with maple neck looks killer.

Lastly I think it's kind of dweeby if you're aping Gilmour and have the black body/guard w white pickup covers and knobs, but if you're doing something unrelated I think that look is pretty damn sweet.

Edit--misread the strat neck line and thought you were thinking a strat style body as well, but I think my comments would still apply.

I like that cream off white on Yngwie's guitars.
Yeah, it's not the most exciting choice but it's classy as.

I was thinking orange with a blue or white pick guard. So....

Popv: blonde is hot when done right. I know what you mean about the Gilmour thing, looks great but trying to avoid it.

Goroth: like Olympic white? That was up for consideration but I don't know what colour pick guard I'd go with.

Could be cool if I can get a nice chunk of wood, and I don't fuck up shaping it .

That's pretty cool. I hadn't thought about that option.

Black, but it'll look very Geddy Lee (which is okay). Red will look passable and quite striking. Navy blue would be great. Agreed on the natural walnut, and agreed on Sherwood Green.

Of those Fender colours, the greens are definitely ahead, as is firemist silver.
Thanks Hyphen!

The idea of doing a proper sheet of copper on top to oxydise has also struck me:

Regular copper paint is nice, too:
