i had a nfgz for a few weeks before i sent it to blurillaz as the main piece of the groundswell>arc flash osc dual pedal and i really liked it. it works best when it is pushed by something and it was marvelous in front of a bit.
unless the zg is like the mystery fuzz i have no experience with it. vfm and sm are always fun...

I second this. A wah + a distortion/fuzz = awesome noise. I would add a flanger or phaser to the mix as well... then it's just over-the-top craziness! Also, a ringmod, an 80's RAT and creative use of feedback and your whammy bar makes for kickassness as well. Listen to it here, in the second half of the song: http://www.reverbnation.com/play_now/song_846962

EHX Memory Toy->Any dirt. Feedback up, dirt on, mess with delay knob. Alternatively, just delay/reverb into distortion sounds terrific for teh gnarly bits.
I want a giant bunny and I want a bunch of regular bunnies and they will form a hive mind and the giant bunny will be the queen bunny and they will attack in swarms.
And don't forget about unorthodox stuff like playing into the inputs on tape recorders and running them into the red with their own on-board pre's. I used to have an old CB mic plugged into a cassette tape deck and then patched out into a combo plastic record player/am fm radio/dual cassette stereo, and I'd play accordion and trumpet and junk into that CB mic and let it howl through that crappy stereo with the cassette deck pre's way in the red. That feedback sounded phenomenal.
My set-up at home now has an old tube radio tuner patched into my patch bay, so I play guitar through that pretty regularly (close quarters NY living doesn't allow for much play time with my amp...) And that old radio overdrives in a very unusual way.
