Know Of Any Good Buzzaroud Clones??

Post by stoneapart »

Hello All -
Looking to re-up on the infamous Buzzaround pedal. Had one a long time ago and miss it dearly. Looking to try a different company/pedal this time around so i was hoping for some suggestions of companies or specific pedals anyone might know of or have/had. My only pre-requisite is that its well built and sounds great! Always loved a good Buzzaround...any other Buzzaround fans out there?? Hit me up...
Thanks ILF'ers

Have you checked clones from Arcane analog, skinpimp, ghost effects,...? Never messed with any of em, but it might be a good place to start, they get mensioned often when it comes to good buzzaround clones :idk:

If you don't want the germanium / temperature headache, I did a silicon version a while back. It's a little sharper sounding, but with the same Buzzaround flavor. Works in the sun too. :thumb:

I think I made one for jrmy if memory serves me. I think he came up with the "Buzzicon" moniker. There's a whole thread on it around here.

i had a Ghost Effects version a while back & i REALLY wish i hadn't sold it. If you see one, grab it! Ian said he has very limited stock of the transistors, so he probably won't be making many more.

I also thought the Arc Effects Crimson King was really nice, but that seems to also be discontinued.

Was gonna chime in with the Arc, but shit... wonder when it was discontinued.

Edit: just checked the Arc site and it still appears to be available :idk:

+ another for the ARC Crimson King if you are able to find one. I have no direct experience with other Buzzaround clones and am satisfied enough with with my Crimson King to call it quits. The lack of a master volume control seemed like it would be an issue, but the balance knob compensates for any/all output level fluctuations nicely IMO.

I have an arcane analog one, it's really good, but the only battery thing is actually making contemplate getting rid of it. PM me if you are interested

I've long been considering the Super Electric Buzzaround clone, which is sometimes available on ebay direct from the builder, Jimmy Behan.

This is not it, but links to the store: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Super-Electric- ... Sw~oFXFQrh

Yup, digi2t knocked it out of the park with that one. I've been meaning to make a demo of it FOREVER, but have had issues with my home music computer until relatively recently. I should A/B it with my regular Buzzaround clone, built (I think) by Rockness Monster, who I haven't seen around these parts for years now.

I'm looking for a buzzaround clone, too! Arc, Ghost, and Super Electric are high on the list. Here are some others:

Stephen Douglas Design - Green Shadow
http://stephendouglasdesign.com/green-shadow/

Wilson Effects - Uber Fubar
http://www.wilsoneffects.com/UberFubar.html

Dentone Pedals
http://www.dentonepedals.com/more-pedals.html

I've never tried out any of these, they're just on my radar. No connection with any of these builders.

Whichever one you go with, I've found that having a master volume control is really helpful - the standard controls on a Buzzaround (esp the Sustain and Timbre) are INCREDIBLY interwined/interactive/overlapping and affect the overall volume to a huge degree. So it's entirely possible that if you're going for a really low gain sound, it'll be way quieter than unity volume, or a high gain sound will be much louder than unity. Looks like the Arcane Analog and Stephen Douglas versions both incorporate that.
