After this's all over, I hope the U.S. gov't bills Trump for the damage he's done to our reputation

The GOP is upset because they spent a long time courting people with questionable ideas to be part of the GOP big tent movement under control of the old moneymen ring leaders but it turned out that their populist movement seized control and idiocy reigns supreme.

The GOP's internal putsch has upset everything. They never wanted people like Trump, Palin or the Tea Party (not to be confused with Ron Paul's early proto-Tea Party, also an unwanted member of the GOP coalition but for different reasons) to actually assume positions of power. Those people were there to appeal to the lowest common demoninator, not unlike the ultra-religious conservative Christian movement. They were to be used as attack dogs, leveraged to push a position and a "conservative agenda" more than the actual goals of the party as a whole.

Trump was initially seen as an amusing sideshow, someone who'd make for great ratings, good soundbites and a recruiting tool for mouthbreathers. He'd get up there and say dumb shit to fan the flames, dumb shit the party architects wanted for populism but didn't want to actually sour the GOP over all.

The problem is it didn't goto plan. Trump inflamed a base, alright. He found the most base, ignorant types flocked to him and suddenly the GOP lost control and found themselves being Donald Trump and his legion's party, not the GOP they designed.

Y'know, the worst part is Donald Trump, meglomania aside, could actually be an acceptable canidate. Prior to his grandstanding run for President, he actually espoused moderate positions. In several cases, he's well left of not only GOP party line, but even Clinton's rhetoric. Like Bernie Sanders, he brings a complete outsider's view to the beltway and would've been an acceptable canidate for change; except he's gone in full force for the firebrand rhetoric about immigration, Islam, war and the like. He had to adapt himself to the caricature created by his fans, and now we're stuck with some sort of hyper-xenophobe screaming far-rightwing talking points with a thick coat of obscene meglomania on top of it.

Not unlike Hitler, Trump's core fans are slowly becoming brownshirts. I'm not going to suggest that Trump is Hitler, nor would an America under Trump be akin to a Germany under the Reichstag, but there's certainly a valid historical comparisiont o be made.

FWIW, when Bernie ultimately failed I had to sit down and really think about Trump versus Clinton. I've decided that I won't be party to a Trump presidency because of how I saw him progressing, although I secretly hope that he suddenly morphs his outlook and character design to be more centrist-appealing than before, I don't hold out much help.

Johnson/Weld or Stein/Hippie. I won't be a party to the decline of America any further. This one won't be my fault.

Wouldn't surprise me if he did since all the Bernie supporters would probably be fine with another year/whatever of Obama over Hilly/Trump.
no, fuck Obama with a greased safety cone as well.

I would tell you that the recognition of all authoritarian politics and democracies as inherently corrupt and Anti-Human helps when swallowing these pieces of news, but it doesn't. Disillusionment, it turns out, is just as depressing.

No. He's always been a racist, xenophobic shit stain, and a loud, braying one. The language of casual violence has always come easily to him. The full page ads he took out calling for the death penalty for the kids railroaded for the Central Park jogger attack are Exhibit A and should be disqualifying. He's been a horror show ever since I became aware of him in the 80s.

Ugh I just read Trump's explanation on his site of how he'll get Mexico to pay for the wall.

Step 1: "no alien may wire money outside of the United States unless the alien first provides a document establishing his lawful presence in the United States."

"On day 2 Mexico will immediately protest. They receive approximately $24 billion a year in remittances from Mexican nationals working in the United States. The majority of that amount comes from illegal aliens. It serves as de facto welfare for poor families in Mexico. There is no significant social safety net provided by the state in Mexico."

What a sick fuck.
