Re: post weird instruments/sound devices
I was buying a 8step from a dude yesterday and we ended up jamming on a few things he had, one of which was a taishogoto

It sounded drone asf, all the strings were tuned to a G and we ran it through an RM-1n (which btw, was my first encounter with that pedal. Sounds bloody amazing) and an H9. Really, really fun. Had a metallic resonating sound to it, as one could expect with those strings. I think I need one eventually

Wrong spelling in the youtube title, but I kinda liked the video

I loved it! Doesn't sustain too much, but enough of the right kind of reverb should fix that
He also had a reverb made out of a gong, mini amp and a contact mic. He also gave me a stereo 2u rackmount graphic eq for free. No idea what to do with that right now but thanks I guess

For some reason it got flipped. It had an 1/8 jack on the back. A little brown cable is running from top right of it, and it has a knob like to the right of his hand. He said he got it for like 1000 SEK (100 USD is almost but not really 1000 SEK) shipped from ebay japan.

There's build videos on the channel too in case you're into the nitty gritty of it.

Yeah I think that's the deal. It's an "open exhibit" within reason.
Also I am terribly jealous. Clips!

No anti-tank guitar?

Matthew Schultz has made a bunch of these, I was first introduced to them via Pigface, but he used them solo with Lab Report. It's basically a plank of wood strung with cables over pickups that he either bows or hammers.

There's also room for Einstuerzende Neubauten who've sort of made their mark by using whatever they could find. The story was they couldn't afford real insturments, so they made their own. They've used things such as tap dancers, high way overpasses, power tools, jet engines, diesel engines, and the like to make music since 1981, and are still at it although a bit more refined.
This is a picture of a full length Japanese video "Halber Mensch:"

They are in fact "playing" all of those there. The guy in front is hammering on a gas cylinder next to the mic'd up shopping cart (the angle grinder gets used pretty heavily back then, too), the one in the back is playing a piece of sheet metal sort of like a slide and hte ducting next to him was used for percussion. To the rear right is someone flexing and sawing at another piece of sheet like a big wobble board.
