Update: I ended up getting a tiny terror. Price was right, size was right. It just arrived today and I've only been able to try it out at apartment lvls, but I really like it so far. I was surprised that the mini actually sounds really good through it too when it's dialed in right. The mini continues to amaze me.. Will update after practice lvls.

The TT needs sensitive speakers to get the most out of its lower power...a rando 4x12 is likely to underperform [as you've found]

I'd sooner get one of these

Or even better

Sorry to hear that. A cranked tt through a 4X12 *should* be able to hold its own in a practice/jam situation, but it doesn't have enough headroom to survive if:

a) Your cab's got inefficient speakers and/or an open back cab, which I'm assuming your cab isn't. Expect a serious audible difference when upgrading G12H75's to even just a quad of Vintage 30s.

b) Your band's ridiculously loud. As in, a loud drummer and drum kit, big bass rig, second guitarist with a beefy half stack, etc...

c) Your guitar's got really low output pickups. Don't no how that translates to db's or anything, I just know I have to adjust my amp's volume when I plug in a gibbo instead of my tele.

Anyway, if it's just a matter of fixing one of those things instead of several, and you're an extra couple db's short...Something like an mxr micro amp wouldn't be just a cheap solution, there's actually a good chance it'll sound extra rad if you get your speakers and amp's front end cooking extra :excellent:

It'll eat up tubes faster than you could replace em though :s
