Shin Ei-pedals

Post by PanicProne »

Been offered to buy these two Shin Ei-pedals; Wah/Fuzz and Hurricane/Surf/Siren/Vol/Wah. You people have any experience with these two dudes or Shin Ei in general? There's isn't a lot out there so far on the web. But they look really cool and wouldn't cost me a fortune. My question really is though, are they worth it? And how usefull is and what the heck does the siren/hurricane sound like?

I'd be really glad if someone could feed me some info on these pedals!

I'll buy that Hurricane/Surf if you don't want it! :thumb:

I know I've heard a demo or read a story about it at some point and was thoroughly intrigued / impressed, though I'd be hard-pressed to tell you where I saw it now... Is it one of those dual axis wah's? Like you can rock it back and forth as well as side to side?

Ok, cool. I won't be able to try em out before I pay so I'm kinda depending on you people to help me out here with this little gamble.. Don't think they're "dual axis" as you stated, but they seem cool anyway..

The Shin-ei wah-fuzz is a real sleeper. Grab it. It's a vintage Super-Fuzz with a kinda crappy wah attached. Think of the wah as a tone control and you won't be disappointed, just don't try to think of it as a real Shaft!/Voodoo Chlld kinda wah (it's got a kinda transfomer rather than a proper inductor, like all the 70s Japanese wahs I've seen so far -- Shin-ei / Roland / Ibanez and all the variants).
But the jewel in there is that Shin-ei built the Univox Super-fuzz, and that's exactly what's in there --- FY6 Super-Fuzz. That's a great, great fuzz.
The siren thing is kinda fun, and wacky and all, but that fuzzwah is the biz.

It's really nice to see that registering here really paid off! :D Quick and nice answers immediately. However,is there anyone who's got a clip, or can at least describe what the siren-pedal sounds like? Or mention something similar.

More info here: http://www.effectsdatabase.com/model/national/me940

If you take a pass on it, let me know! Otherwise have fun making noise with it.

No idea on the Siren. But if you want to know how the Super Fuzz sounds, check out MCA's bass tone on the Beastie's "Sabotage". It's pretty f'ing mean.

Yes, same thing. Shin-ei built stuff that was branded Univox, Unicord, Sekova, National, Apollo, Pax, Kent, Marlboro, Jax and a stack of other names. It's weird seeing a Univox Super-Fuzz sell on ebay for $700, when a Pax or kent branded one, which is identical save a few letters in the badge, sells for $200.
My National fuzzwah was $34

Don't worry about it. If you ever need money I'd wager almost everyone on here would try to get in on those...

Yep I is but is but devnulljp covered it all already. Al lI can add is if you can get a deal on any of their stuff then get it, even if you don't like it... shin ei/univox is collectable. I keep wanting to buy one of those Wah/Fuzzes but I can never justify cost vs my actual use for one.... says the guy with 75ish pedals....

A real fun runaround is if you start researching the stuff on http://www.effectsdatabase.com/ and see how many company names pop up on the same stuff
