Ikea Self-Assembly Pedal?! (Little Bear G1 Valve Drive)

Post by longfallboots »

The demo should be up tomorrow, but...

The Super Cheap "Valve Drive" from super cheap brand "Little Bear" (they make the shamelessly named "Rat Track" I think?) also sell a bizarre valve overdrive pedal...

Which arrives flat-pack... like an Ikea bookcase...

Anyway - the sound demo should be posed tomorrow (and I try it with both the 6n4 valve it comes with, and a 12AX7 which to my ears is better), but I thought I'd post a little "assembly" video (though I spared you the unboxing!)

As I mention in the video, this is the second one of these I've had. The first one was unusable because of hum. Interestingly the seller claims it can run off either an 18V AC supply (which is what the first one had - insane hum - in fact, the PSU itself made noise...never a good sign) or a 12v DC supply (which this one had - it works fine), so if you go for one, make sure you get the 12V DC adapter.

Seems like a poor design - no sides, and the cable array around the tube socket is just headscratching, can see that going wrong!

My pedalboard costs approximately 191 Metal Zones.
