What's the Evel twin going to be?

Post by echorec »

I want it to be dual-channel phaser, but I'm guessing it will be another dirt box. Maybe a circuit inspired by the Ampeg Gemini?

HM-2 and FZ-2 in the same box.
Probably not, but I want this ultimate sludge-machine!

Not that I see a market for it, but amp in a box of the red-knob Fender Twins with a horrendous gain section? :)

Twin part'll be a fender twin style od, Evel part will be a single drone switch that makes motorcycle noises.

I can stand behind that, but I'm a couple hours from the Snake River.

I might well buy that assuming it didn't have "modern improvements" that take out the original stuff.

In that, Boss has gotten it right on the Waza stuff - there's the original, and there's the "modified" and the end user gets to pick.

Like I love the Bee Baa but so few modern clones have the original nasty treble circuit that I use as much as the actual fuzz!

"So what’s up with the evel twin? Well, when Howard first started experimenting with the circuit, he found that it could be taken in many directions. There was a lot of potential there for all kinds of amazing guitar sounds. We wanted to start by offering our take on the classic recipe which resulted in the original Karma Suture, now known as the Germanium Karma Suture. For our second take on this idea we wanted to make something that was louder, punchier, and more aggressive while still keeping the sweet even-order harmonic character of the original. The result is the new Silicon Karma Suture which employs an all-silicon recipe. Both transistors are silicon but still retaining the PNP/NPN architecture. The clipping diode section is now all-silicon as well, configured for asymmetrical clipping."

I was actually looking into the Karma Suture again this weekend and this does interest me, but damn it I hate their super bright color choices on graphics. Would look way cooler if it was black/white/silver or something.

Raiders! John Madden approves.

Might have to change the name to quarterback crunch:

I was honestly disappointed with the karma suture...don't know if I just don't like harmonic percolators (only one I've used) or that one just didn't do it for me. Will to try a dirge, Frederic, or Collins someday though.

Given your attraction to noisey chaos, I think that may have been the wrong iteration of that circuit for you. It seems more tame and "usable" to the regular player than the "Albini" version of the circuit which is known for feeding back like crazy. & im saying this based on internet knowledge only.

Cheers to that, man. I do like a nice normal drive though too (250, DBA interstellar, steroid od, etc). It just kinda deadened my hh jag's signal to where I preferred cleaned or amp distortion (granted, I have no idea what it would sound like with the SGV or Mosrite). The guy I sold it to (or I think I traded it for an ex-7 Digitech) loved the karma suture though.

Someday I will try that circuit again.
