Re: Pedals you wish were reissued
I dig it, jwar. Thrifty secondhand shopping & savvy trading is a major contributing factor in how I was able to build up my gear stash while operating at a poverty-tier income. Not having kids or other financial dependents helps too. Passing deals along to folks in similar predicament, who are looking to make beautiful noise instead of skimming profit and pushing up prices is how I prefer to roll. I'm not against free enterprise but parasitic philistines can fuck right off.
Instead of approaching gear as financial investments I view it as an investment in myself...and culture...where the goal is to ultimately give back something to a world which has provided much enrichment. It's like an education, only instead of paying tuition and dealing with PC BS to gain lab access I eliminate the middleman and just buy lab equipment, which typically holds its value or appreciates organically. Worst case scenario I eat the shipping cost while absorbing priceless experience & wisdom
Reissues undermining sticker prices can be meddlesome but I typically gravitate toward buying stuff where reissues wont affect demand for the awesome originals (OG DMM anyone?)
Tfw you sold an original run Spaceman Aphelion for $225 and now suckaz are paying 2-4x as much for THE REISSUES
But that aint where the story ends.
I turned the money into a Tall Font Muff which later became the '94 Deja Vibe whose ROI has been priceless
Everyone walked away feeling like they've won. Awesome.
And I could probably parlay that into more $ than any Aphelion will fetch...but it aint for sale/Scrooge McDuck
The late models are (for sale) however...and zero fux given. They don't beat the original.

Re: Pedals you wish were reissued
See I do sell things at great prices (ever seen a fire sale by me LOL!), but it's usually because I'm desperate. If it's a bro I've done good stuff with in the past, I don't mind giving a hook up. People do it for me too. I just don't like when people automatically assume that they are going to be getting the best price anyone has ever gotten. LOL. I've had it happen where guys low ball the shit out of me just because we are on the same gear sites and they think it's cool, which it's not. I don't do that to people ever unless I don't have enough money and then I offer a trade as well. If I done it and you feel like calling me out, I apologize because I don't remember ever doing it. Doesn't mean I haven't I guess. haha
When I try to make a profit I sell on Reverb or Ebay. It doesn't feel right doing it here, plus it's hard to sell things here a lot of the time anyway.
I've sold many items that I later kicked myself for selling because I could have made more. hahaha. But it's whatever.

Re: Pedals you wish were reissued
I forget if i posted this here, or on some synth forum, but i remember the way M:tG cards were traded in the days before smart phones and online 24/7 updating price guides: There was an inkling of understanding of financial value, but by and large, trades came down to "are both people getting what they want, and do they feel good about this trade?" Or, put another way "Are both people walking away a little happier than they entered?" If the answer was yes, 9 times out of 10, the trade would happen. I don't see why that can't be the way with pedals. It sucks taking a loss, or not making as big of a profit, but i just view it as a rental fee.

So much this.
I have an Aphelion up on Reverb now, purposely listed at the lowest price. Hasn't sold. I've gotta say that although the Spaceman stuff is very foxy and sounds great, it's nowhere near worth the hype. If I do make a little profit off of mine, I wouldn't complain a bit... now the guys listing their for $800 bucks? Fuuuuuck off. So unbelievably dumb.rustywire wrote:Tfw you sold an original run Spaceman Aphelion for $225 and now suckaz are paying 2-4x as much for THE REISSUES

Re: Pedals you wish were reissued
Yeah it's a great pedal, looks-wise and sound-wise and if you want a TS-style with bragging rights it shines on all sides.
Everything in the Spaceman line has an appealing aesthetic and attention to detail. I've had the Gemini III, Mercury III, Aphelion, Saturn V & WOW Signal. They're all with new owners now.
It's a peculiar example, that brand at this time. Yes they are well-tuned and some of the coolest looking pedals made. But for everything they do well, the hype and demand to have them as pedalboard jewelry leads to diminishing returns and value above replacement is just about guaranteed to be negative.

I feel like you can get that effect from new stuff today that is a lot smaller and reasonably priced.

How long has that thing been floating in pre-release limbo? Does it even have a price on it yet?

Re: Pedals you wish were reissued
I have a theory behind this... the Super FatMan envelope filter is sooooo different from the protostar...I have a feeling that the geiger counter pro is going to be so drastically different from the original...so I'm keeping the smaller one too.Inconuucl wrote:The Geiger Counter pro is so big I rather have the smaller one.
I heard $450...popvulture wrote:How long has that thing been floating in pre-release limbo? Does it even have a price on it yet?
