Fairly simple needs- must have midi out and ability to switch/queue patterns. Preferably versatile and fuckable with
I've a volca beats but it's not ideal for more complex /midi synced stuff. And I hate computers so I want something hardware based! Almost like the microbrute of the drum machine world...

I don't know how smoothly this switches patterns on the fly, but it would seem to fulfill at least some of your wishes (MIDI in/out, hardware with physical knobs to control). The Tom Cat's supposed to be much better than its predecessor, the Rhythm Wolf, while still having a low price point.
I've been looking for a good analog drum machine for a while, but since the Jomox was discontinued, there really hasn't been much to choose from.

If I wanted a drum machine and had some extra space I'd save up for a TR-8. Used they aren't that expensive imo. How big is your budget?

In my range for sure. But 808 and 909 sounds are so readily available even in my daw that I'm not sure I'd want a machine limited to just those sounds.Brandsmannen wrote:If I wanted a drum machine and had some extra space I'd save up for a TR-8. Any electribe er-1 experience?

I picked up an ER1 on the b/s/t not too long ago. There are a lot of drum sounds to be found in the 4 part drum synth section while still having the clap and hi hat sounds. It cues patterns like any boss drum machine does. I have only used the MIDI out to sync a dream sequence and Jamman rack looper to MIDI clock. The synced delay and knob record is super fun as well.

should describe what sounds you're looking for, be it 808 type stuff or something more realistic. there are definitely cheap options out there for either.
i have a whole bunch of drum machines but they're all for me being into techno type stuff. if i wanted something realistic i'd just pick up an SR-16 again.
