Scandis look as horrid with dreadlocks as other caucasians though, so I don't think we should try to reclaim our hairitage ( ).

RATM have some catchy songs, but I always thought that their lyrics were a bit too... I dunno, simplistic isn't really the word I'm looking for either. Slogan-y? Stereotypical? But whatever, I'm guessing their rhetoric isn't aimed at me.

It's very much in the style of slogans/protest chants on purpose. Nuance is not, as has been pointed out ad nauseum, the goal.

Nah. Trying to be polite about saying that listening to overtly political tunes because you like how heavy they are puts you in a bracket you prolly don't want to be in (i.e., we are those people). But...come at me, bro, or whatever.

Wasteoids made me laugh.

Yes, exactly. And that's why it falls kinda flat to me. Didn't mean to say that they didn't write that way on purpose.

Bulls on Parade was a legendary skate anthem in peak x-games years when rollerblading was still a thing.
The guitar solo legit blew my young mind. Morello sounded like he was crab-skratching on a turntable.
I didn't focus much on the lyrics, it was just angsty kid hype music that made me wanna grind some handrails.

And yeah DoS, I getcha.

Do any of your aforementioned friends listen to bands like screwdriver (or skrewdriver w/e) ~*for musical reasons*~ :whoa: :|:

 no they're just generally clueless to, you know, the idea that people might not be interested in the explanation.

On the other hand, this is a good conversation on the topic:

What I said is not accetable and is clearly juvenile button pushing but I hope it demonstrates how some currently living people feel when they see the swatiska symbol. I've heard arguments before like the one Eugene presented and I still think it's bullshit. It is unfortunate that ancient symbols like this were co-opted but that's what happened and most folks know what an emotionally charged icon it is. I doubt Eugene is a Nazi and probably chose the symbol to convey its original meaning but he is obviously intelligent enough to know better and did it just to push buttons, but why? Why would someone do this? I suppose he wouldn't mind if I showed up at a gig with a confederate flag t-shirt and burned a cross and wore a white sheet over my head? All I'm saying is when I see a swastika it generates feelings of anger and sadness in me and remember the Nazi movement is still very active and this symbol is still used by this movement today. I hate to come across as a PC type of person and I definitely believe in his right to wear the symbol but come on, have some respect.

Well, I have great sympathy for Rachel who thinks we suck and for you who are reminded of your family's personal losses during World War 2. Nothing I say, I imagine, will encourage Rachel to believe that the music we make is of any merit at all, though I suspect her distaste is non-musical and probably personal. That's OK. She will/can join the throngs who don't know or care about Oxbow at all.

Mr. Bourbon, sir, however....if you've read the excerpt from the Maelstrom interview and you still find it completely indefensible, then I suppose it won't matter to you that I find symbolic measures fairly worthless in total, to begin with. Much like LaVey finally admitting to me in an interview that he was an atheist who was using the whole Church of Satan dodge just to make the rent. call me an amoralist. Or call me a [EDITED] as long as it amuses you to do so, unless what you're really saying is "I want to fight you," I'm not liable to be too concerned about it as symbols exist to be manipulated in ways that we find to be significant or interesting or illustrative of larger points we might be trying to make in, on or about our lives. In this specific instance, I am talking about good AND evil and if your point is that in the process of doing so I might be hurting someone's feelings, well, understood. I, in fact, wear long sleeve shirts when I go to Seder.

Other than that I cannot be (and have not been) too concerned, instead preferring to reserve my real concerns for present and eminent dangers to my mental health and physical welfare.

have a nice day.

cheers,
Eugene

Dude, IN THIS THREAD I said you have killed zero threads. Then you killed this thread.

You have never disappointed me.

You're pretty famous, CC. I wouldn't sweat it.

(Totally forgot that those designations are a thing. Now I want to level up, too. What's next?)

Just to take it back to page one, y'all discuss this soundtrack (which was way better than the movie that spawned it), and yet no one brings up the flagship song?

J Mascis and Del? It's Gorillaz before anyone knew what a Dan the Automator even was. Crazy word play, fuzzy Jazzmasters and a perfect representation of what "alternative" could be when we were still confusing between calling it "college rock" and "grunge" music.
