Re: Who are the musicians you are most influenced by
See since I released my album I've been getting that a lot, and people keep assuming I'm mad into Have A Nice Life and stuff, and sure, they're great but I listen to Silkworm/Bottomless Pit way more, who I can't attribute to a single musician because Tim and Andy have been playing together so long that they fit together in a way that renders them inseparable.
I think critical influences change every few months, no one really listens to one artist all year through and we dip through phases, but for me personally, I've been thoroughly enjoying old hymns (nothing religious, just love the music when it's played on an organ) by Horatio Spafford and William O. Cushing. Translating that stuff over to guitar can be really enjoyable and I've found it to open up some great, tragic chord progressions.
This was probably a really pretentious answer

Aside from the classic legends, gonna post some modern guys. Josh Homme, Jonny Greenwood, Kevin Parker, Gary Clark Jr, Jack White, and the bands Dead Meadow, All Them Witches, and even Scott Holiday of Rival Sons lately

Precisely. Like, I love Frank Zappa and Tom Waits in interviews (and Zappa in his book), and what they say about / how they approach music. And listening-wise I prefer Waits to Zappa, but neither of them really make it into regular rotation for me.D.o.S. wrote:Some I like listening to and some I steal from, basically.
I'm more like a mids-ist than a bassist.

Adrian Belew, Ian Williams and Steven Wilson. I would also mention Allan Holdsworth but I've never been good enough to pull anything from him.

Yeah, exactly, and to Windfish's point, there are some musicians I really love who are just so far beyond my personal comprehension that I'm not good enough to figure out what they're doing.jrmy wrote:Precisely.
