Eitherway, check out Barber's stuff, maybe one of the direct drives.
The cbread DLS is also worth a shot
anyhthing mid heavy that doesnt get fizzy and works with a vox and is nice and tight
Timmy's a really good OD.
With a Vox though, have you through about a Rangemaster-type boost instead of OD?

ive thought about a boost cause i do love the vox overdrive but im only going pedal cause ill be using it at rehersals using other amps that are supplied aswell as with my own rig

There's a Barber over on HC right now for $90 (not mine / no affiliation). I've heard they're good.
Or try a Sam Ash/Astrotone type fuzz instead. Analogman's making one now, Ron Nealy's had one on the go for years, Covers a lot of the OD territory but is still a fuzz. Tommy Bolin liked it, one of my favourite low gain fuzz sounds.
