80s Roland Cubes

Post by tabcantab »

I've seen these around for cheap, and I'm thinking of picking up either a 40 or 60 watt version as a simple SS combo.

I've seen some marked "Keyboard" with a tweeter, some marked "Bass" with no reverb, and some marked "Chorus" which have that built in, which is all straightforward enough. But there's another distinction (or is there?) between the orange ones just labeled Cube, and silver ones labeled Super Cube. Anybody know what the difference is between these models?

Beyond that, any group wisdom on these things? Horror stories? Love stories?

If the bigger cubes are anything like my Micro Cube... they are bullet proof. Mine has been in the trunk of my car, bottom of a plane and other unmentionable places and works fine. I've not needed so much as to clean the contacts. Have had it over a decade. (the first Micro Cube)

Echoing ER here I've heard nothing but great things about the Micro Cube (aside from the people who don't understand what they're getting when they get one, of course).

Solid, unremarkable in sound but perfectly functional.

And they just don't die.

Not a Jazz Chorus, but what is?

I've never heard a bad thing about them. All I have to add to the discussion is that if you happen to find a ZT Lunchbox Jr. for a similar price you should also consider that.
