Another "What distortion" thread! (Citizen)

The dirt on the guitars in this track is freaking perfect. I know one guitarist plays through a Twin, and the other has a Big Muff. It kinda sounds like a Marshall? I have bad tonal ears for detecting things. Anyway, I was just wondering what you guys thought they were using.

Citizen is a sick band, by the way. Their new(est) album, Everybody is Going to Heaven, fucking rips. Check it. :)

No clue! Sound low gain, but I just listened to this band for the first time and can't stop!!! So relaxing!

That's the amp and mic placement (real or virtual) more than what pedal. Put most any fuzz or medium gain or higher gain dirt box in front of a BF-type tone stack amp with non-Celestions, and you're 90% of the way there or more.

My pedalboard costs approximately 191 Metal Zones.

Thanks! I had no idea that would come into play. I'm running Celestions in my JC120, maybe I should look at other speakers. :)

I'm glad you dig them! They're super fun, and even their heavier stuff is pretty chill.

I've never listened to this band even though my friend jake has been playing with them for awhile. I don't have the attention for it right now because beer but if I remember tomorrow I'll see if I can find out what gear they're using.

Funny, I was just listening to citizen on the way home. The album that came before this one I think. Pretty different from what I normally listen to, they're kinda like a guilty pleasure for me :p

Anyway, I don't hear anything you can't easily get from pretty much any medium gain drive pedal, as long as you've got a decent amp/cab/gtr :idk:

Twin + Rat might get you close enough :idk:

Hopefully we'll hear for sure exactly what was used soon, but it sounds like an EHX Hot Tubes would get you real close to that sound. It seems to excel at smooth low gain, but have that gritty bite as the gain goes up kinda like in that vid.

guitar pedals were a bit of a pain in the ass to get, so jake didn't bother. he said both guitarists love chorus. there's a youtube video of one of them talking about chorus. he had a tube screamer in that video. :idk:

but anyway. amp wise this thread is pretty spot on.

jcm 800 with janice 412 featuring eminence legends. fender guitars.
twin reverb with emperor cab. reverend guitars.
pedals unknown. but lots of chorus.

we probably could have done a bunch of googling and found that shit out but thought i'd see what information i could glean.
