Need idiot level explanation RE: RWRP

Post by Strange Tales »

I don't do the thinking well and whatever I google seems to become stupid "muh tone fairiez" bullshit frighteningly quick.

I'm getting a Tele this week. I'm replacing the pickups. Is there a point to going RWRP? I'm thinking there is for me because I would like to use both pickups at once.

RWRP is just a way to cancel out the hum generated by single coil pickups when using 2 pickups at once. You want one pickup RWRP, and one standard It is also the theory used in the 2 coils of a humbucker pickup.

I would recommend it for your situation.

Thank you DRod, exactly the answer I was looking for and needed. Now to order some BLK/TRI pickups when I get paid and summarily blast faces off (hopefully in a band context).

Something else to consider, and easy to do if you're installing and wiring your self, is a four-way switch, giving both parallel and series options.

I think (been a while) parallel is standard wiring when both are used, but adding the series is a great option that's thicker and meaner than the traditional wiring.

Idiot needs help again.

So I get both pickups from BLK/TRI. He has shit listed "North Up" "South Up." If I order one of each that should do the RWRP I'm looking for, yea?

God I feel like an idiot.

I guess you'd have to ask them.. presume they'd be 'reverse polarity' but 'reverse wound'? Who knows...

I don't think you need to feel like an idiot here :)

Edit: Oh I just wanted to say RWRP is great, thanks science !

I sent him an email on Monday but I'm still waiting for a reply. I think I'm going to be responsible and just buy a north and south up and see what happens.
