I've always stayed away from JMs because everybody fucking has one.
^ That was me a few years back too. Then tried/owned VMJM, CP and MIJ.

This would be my partsmaster:
CP's neck, VMJM's pickups and MIJ's overall quality (fret job, pots, switches, body, vibrato, tuning pegs).

Will never sell my MIJ because it's LPB!

I'm leaning towards getting one of the thin skin AVRIs that have come available recently, because they're available in Ocean Turquoise. Pretty much my favorite color, and weirdly none of my guitars are too colorful (black, white, blonde, various sunbursts), so it'll be a nice addition. Might eventually switch the mint guard to dark tortoise. I'll also probably swap the witch hat knobs out for cream strat style knobs—I like the feel of those better.

By the way, Repo, where'd you get that bendy arm for the TVL?

I've got a Partsmaster, I like it because it's exactly to the specs that I like/wanted but I am kinda handy with modding/building. Just depends on your comfort level if you dive into something like that.

I've seen some of your gear you've posted—always looks sick! I do eventually wanna build a parts guitar.

BTW saw Baltimore under your avatar and looked at your profile. Graphic designer? Did you go to MICA? I went there for a couple years...

Nah, although I did apply there. Went to VCU down in Richmond and was infinitely happy

Nice, that's a great school! I miss bmore, have a good bit of buds who still live there.

I adore my TVL Jazzmaster. It is stock currently, but I have some seymour duncan hot jazzmaster pickups I am waiting to put in. I typically enjoy a hotter pickup, but the AVRI pickups are great sounding. I understand the hesitancy about everyone playing one, I felt the same a few years ago and purchased a mustang over a jag or a jazzy. Mustang is good and all by man I realized I really just want a jazzmaster. It is my main guitar now, I feel like I can express any musical idea I want on it.

Yeah I hear you—lots of people seem to have gone through it, but eventually capitulate and are happy as hell. Beyond that, people also become Jazzmaster-exclusive (or maybe just offset in general) more than other guitars, it seems. I guess at this point I consider myself mainly just a broadly Fender guy. I love and own other guitars, but am definitely drawn to Fenders (and clones) the most.

Side note, I can't play a Mustang because I'm 6'3 and they look preposterous on me. Too bad, because they do sound pretty f'n great.

its the stock one I stuck in a vice and bent to shape

dunno if I like it or not....its kinda better if you like riding the arm with your pinky like with spaghetti western/surf stuff, the normal shape is a kinda better if you like strumming with it in your hand to get the MBV warble thing

its got a collar I stuck on it also because for some reason, these tremolo arms with the TVLs (maybe all AVRIs?) has a section that is too long and will hit the bottom of the trem cavity with almost no dive if you have the tremolo spring tension set to fender specs.

I just snagged an AV65 (in Firemist Silver). It's really, really nice. I had a road worn before that, which was nice except for the relic job (I just couldn't deal with the relic job, even though it was fairly real looking).

I'm currently offset only in my guitar collection.

Partsmaster: VMJM body and Strat neck with Antiquity IIs
Telemaster
1968 Mustang poorly refinished in burgundy mist.

The Mustang is the easiest to play and most predictable. The Jazzmaster is the best sounding, but needs some setup work. The Telemaster is my baby, but needs some new pickups. Overall I love them all for different reasons, and would love to have a Jaguar in the mix as well, but can't afford one nor do I have the space. If I had to keep one it would be a close call, but I'd probably keep the JM because it just sounds so "right" to me and it looks the coolest.
