The best sentence in that piece is "The language barrier is a filter through which only charisma can pass."

Don't care about Arcade Fire or Grimes but I wish there were more sentences like that one in music reviews. Concise ways of describing stylistic preference w/r/t the music at hand.

The only Arcade Fire I liked was Funeral. Like 100% of Canadian rock bands, their regional flavour was their strength. Once they stopped being "a Montreal band" and started being "an indie band" they lost their (one might say) charisma.

It usually happens right around the time the band gets it into their head that breaking into the US market is a desirable thing to do.
