What fuzz used in this song?

Post by fuzzu »

I'm trying to figure out which fuzz is used on the solo of this song. Fuzz part starts around 2:42. Thanks for any good suggestions/info.

Maybe something with a bias adjustment. You can get those velcroish-ripping speaker noises with fuzzes that have a bias knob turned back a bit.

No idea, but I'd think you should be able to get pretty close with a carefully tweaked fuzz factory, or something similar...:idk:

I just skimmed a few forums and saw that he's been spotted using a Tubescreamer, Crowther Hot Cake, Colorsound Fuzz Wah, and some homemade dirt boxes built by his brother.

Repoman and FM had good points. I think you could get similar sounds from other pedals, with a little bit of knob tweaking.

This company is about to launch a Warren Ellis signature pedal. I imagine it's based on a vintage pedal that he's used previously, like the Colorsound.

[Warren Ellis signature pedal

Shortly after the release of the SF-02 Goo Goo Fuzz, I expect to be ready to ship the most eagerly awaited pedal in the history of Reuss pedals: The WE-01 Warren Ellis signature 'Muzzbomb' pedal. The pedal is based on Warren Ellis' mystery black DIY box, which was made by his brother. I had the box in the lab for cloning, and so far I have only revealed very little about what it actually is. But here you go: It's a badly messed up Tycobrahe Octavia circuit. Radically modded from the vintage specifications, and absolutely sick and evil sounding. In the Muzzbomb this already violently loud muzz effect is paired with a HUGE clean boost, which can also be used by itself. The Reuss WE-01 Muzzbomb is made in Europe and will be listed at the webshop at $179.95 (a bit more than previously announced, sorry, but that's due to the increased costs of switching to local manufacturing). The first 50 Muzzbombs is released Monday June 27th. I expect to open the webshop for pre-orders Sunday June 19th. The total batch is 150 pedals, and they'll be completed 50 at a time in three weeks intervals. They are handmade, and that's how fast my helping hands and I can assemble them.]

I am the manufacturer of the Warren Ellis Muzzbomb, and I had the opportunity to specificly ask Warren what the effects are on that 'Mermaids' solo - and he wouldn't tell me! So I guess you can file it along 'best kept secrets'. My personal guess is that the sound is the result of a larger chain of effects more than the sound of a single pedal. I think his POG could be involved. But the Muzz is definitely there too. I am recording some sound clips of the Muzzbomb with a friend on Sunday, which I'll post at the webshop asap.

Nice!
This is a very impressive collection of Roto Toms. That's 21 Roto Toms in all. That is only $33.00 a Roto Tom.

We are on schedule, and the webshop is open for pre-orders now. I have had 150 enclosures made, and my helping hands and I are assembling them in smaller batches of 50 pedals, so it's the first 50 that are up for sales now. The rest are following over the summer, as fast as we can get them done.
