Actual Sounds + Voices totally blew my mind when it came out. Haven't listened to it in a decade or more but it definitely had an impact.

The sweep then straight into light chaser from vertikal. That was just anxiety and then relentless anxiety. Then owlwood, which should have given everyone a breather but was also claustrophobic as fuck. First real release came with Echoes, which is one of my all time favourites, and was arguably the best number of the night. Then they kept things catchy and crowd friendly with I, the Weapon. The synth sounds in it were godly. The. Ther was another nice comedown with Waiting for You.D.o.S. wrote:! what else did they play?
Then somewhere along the highway.
No breaks. Not a word to the crowd. No pauses for tuning or other shit. Just song after song.
It was awesome and terrible and uplifting and depressing and too much.
It may have been genious, I really can't tell. Like, maybe the fact that I didn't give a shit about the the last couple of tracks of SAtH due to sheer overwhelmed emotional exhaustion was part of the show. In retrospect it feels kind of... planned. Phenomenal band, and phenomenal performance. And the sounds... Everything was perfect and precise, but unlike Meshuggah which is inhuman in its perfection this was more perfection that comes with insane levels of planning, attention to sonic detail and just being relaxed with each other on stage.
Lots of adjectives up there that could sound ironic or perhaps empty, but I mean every word. Cray.

Ten years ago yesterday, I showed up late to a Thursday concert, catching the end of Minus The Bear's set. Years later, I learned that mewithoutYou had actually opened that show unbilled.
Tonight, I finally got to see mewithoutYou for the first time. It was wonderful.

Hell yeah dude, they're super solid live. Glad you got to see them. I'll be catching them in a few weeks, stoked to hear Pale Horses material live.

They seem to change up what they play fairly regularly, but yeah I'd be pretty stoked to see that set. Hype.

Yeah, they've been posting their sets on twitter and they've been different every night. Some have been pretty Pale Horses and 10 Stories heavy. Really happy with the spread we got.
I was very excited to hear my two favorites, Tie Me Up and C Minor. Also, Red Cow is a great set opener.

Glad you got to see mwY, Foo.
Saw them opening for Thrice and Brand New in 2007. They were the best of three.

His album was pretty cool.
Just found out Rhys Chatham is playing here tonight. Excited to see that -- wish it had been better promoted, though, I found out by accident.
