I sort of liked the drum beats, though they did have a definite hook to 'em.

Loving this thread, still need to participate, in due time..

Thanks man! I never like any drums I program...I had a specific goal with these ones (a bit of space to test sustain and a few different frequencies to test response).

But hearing one beat continuously for like 45 minutes wears on me no matter how good it is haha.

Yeah I kinda suck at sequencing drums, piecing them together like a Lego beat.
Hack tip: go the MPC route (tap tempo, program in real-time, 1 take)

Haha...I just try to do raw d-beat crust assualt and end up with fighting game character select music...

I need to get that "Gonna take you for a ride" sample goin'.

I had an MPC...nothing has ever made me so angry. Much prefer yamaha su700 (and the extra few $)...wish I had the patentience for an MPC though.

That's why I got an MPC 60... because I'm also not patient with tree directory file/submenu systems. Its devoted menu buttons & number navigation OS system had the most painless learning curve of any sampler I've used, even with the 8 line alphanumeric lcd. Plus it has an fx loop for things like ring mod :hobbes:
Yeah that's the ticket.
I mostly got it due to wanting something with character and I cant afford an inflated SP1200. And I have alternate techniques to getting that sound :snax:
The ease of use and rock solid midi were bonuses. Let me guess...you had a 1000?

MPC1000 is the one i had and it was frustrating. 60 wouldve been better but i've moved on.

It's all good now. Su700 does anything I want sampling-wise (not much really, just easy to use)...and the machine drum has enough sampling to get stuff done. I like the was the machine drum sequences too. I can't do any of that step/no visual or quantized style tapping...it's like watching Steve Martin in the jerk. I draw it out with a pencil and transcribe.

The sounds on the machine drum are also perfectly fine for me...I just want backing tracks that are kinda spastic sometimes. I'll probably just loop stuff then splice itonto tape and figure it out...always gotta take the dumb road here.

Ring Mods though...ain't got no problems here. Probably going to throw some digital ones in there.

LG, you should get one of these to run through the ring mods:

To control Pitch or to ring mod the CV signal to control another one? Haha...

I can't do eurorack...I just can't do it.

Might ringmod the broadcast and like moog lfo...might make some neat modulation...or env control + lfo CV via moogs or something. Or maybe get the tetanus booster in there some how?

Yeah, :idk: I just like the way that thing sounds.

There was probably some other synth drum video I was thinking of, but just couldn't find it. :lol: :snax:

I think it just generates CV rhythms to control other drum synths...don't think it has any sounds in it. Maybe I missed something in the video...but that I'd what I thought it was when he announced it a while ago.

It is a good idea though and I like it a lot as someone that is terrible at that stuff. Futuretro zillion is of that ilk I think too (except it is for notes not triggers). I think. I dunno.

Or maybe I should go to bed because I don't know what I am talking about....haha.

Passive Ring Modulation of LFOs to create rhythms for triggers or as a mod source. Shown with a Boss DSD-2 Digital Sampler/Delay:

Signal Path
  • Guitar:
    • Mosrite Ventures mk I -> Boss DSD-2 -> Sunn Beta Lead
    Control Voltage:
    • ||> Moog MF-102 LFO out -> Passive Ring Mod input A
      ||> Copilot Broadcast CV out -> Passive Ring Mod input B
      ||> Passive Ring Mod output -> Boss DSD-2 TRIG.IN
    Recording:
    • AKG D320b -> Mackie VLZ1202 -> Tascam US2x2 -> Garageband
Don't know why the video is glitchy...must have been my phone or something being dumb (most likely iMovie though). The sound is continuous though because it was recorded separate.

Edited for list clarity.

Yeah, I think you're right about the Iron Ether module. I wasn't listening to the explanation. I was just listening to the sounds. :idk:

Your new videos've been sounding fantastic. :!!!:

I'll compile a list of my favorite parts later when I have a chance.

Thanks man! It's all because of that "What mic is this?" thread.

And finally getting a good system for combining video and audio.

Out of sync and switching problems...but one more:

Signal Chain
  • Path A:
    • elektron machine drum left output -> Frostwave Blue Ringer V.2* -> Zoom MS-1000BT -> Electro-Harmonix EH-5000 Frequency Analyzer (2000s Big Box) -> M.A.S.F. Swan Song V.1** -> direct in to Mackie vlz1202 mixer
    Path B:
    • elektron machine drum right output -> Sunn Beta Lead (with reverb) -> AKG D320b -> Mackie vlz1202
    Recording:
    • Mackie vlz1202 -> Tascam US2x2 -> garage band no effects
    * Moog MF-102 carrier out into input B
    ** Boosted significantly by mixer. There is a large volume drop when engaged.

I came across a wicked old blog post by Sean Costello (the ValhallaDSP dude) where he describes a frequency shifter as "half of ring modulator":
