When I say it 'lacks low end and saturation', I mean it's not as brutal as a Mastotron or fz-2. The mastotron has a 'sub' setting that literally made my big ass tube amp vibrate and dance towards the edge of the cab it was sitting on. Till it fell to the ground  The fuzz control can be pushed to the point where it chokes and sputters in a gated type of way.
And the FZ-2 is a super high gain superfuzz variant with a parametric eq. In the wrong hands it can be utilised to demolish small villages. But try to keep that under wraps.

So yeah, I guess that's why I usually don't bonde with vintage style replica's, and why they sound a bit too conservative to me :idk:

Otoh though, it's not like I tried a ton of ff or tonebender clones, so if anyone knows of one that can be dialed in for vintag-y tones as well as more outragious stuff: Lemme know. It seems like it's usually one or the other, but maybe I haven't looked hard enough :idk:

I have noticed as you say, that most of my fuzzes sound better with singles, like my jag. I've been thinking about changing pickups in my SG for a while. Either get a custom pickguard for actual single coils, or just have hum-sized p90s in it
LOL, this is what I did to mine.

Image

Neck: TV Jones T-Armond (Dearmond single coil clone)
Bridge: BG Pure 90

I love this look and feel of this guitar, but when it had 'buckers it never got played. Now it's my main squeeze. I basically want it as close to a '50s style Gibson as I can get electronically. The original Dearmonds are essentially the same pickup construction wise as the old staple pickups in the '50s Gibsons. Now I need to get some 500K vol and some no load 250K tone pots along with a cpl PIO tone caps.
That looks sweet! I love playing my SG, but the Seymour Duncan's I put in it isn't really to my taste. Ideally, I'd like a BLK TRI Crone + BKS combo with a new pickguard. That's a bit more than I can afford right now, so I might roll with the GFS mean 90s. Also feeling like bigsbyfy-ing it.

About the other thing:
I set the gain pretty low on my behringer thing, I like the teeny bit of clarity you can get. I'm not a solo person, so most shit I use is gonna have to handle chords somewhat. Not super good strong separation or anything, but just decently. I often feel like you can play doomy as fuck without a ton of gain. I like lower gain stuff and stacking (hence getting two fuzzes and an OD) instead. I think these more vintage-y suggestions suit me fine
