Eek yeah those are pretty pricey, but definitely not as outrageous as some handmade fuzzes can be. That Fuzz Face looks killer—the JustNick vid sounds really great, too. Shit... didn't need to see these :P

I read super fuzzish and instantly thought of the Buzz. It's fucking amazing, but I've seen people talk about having trouble cutting through. So I'm not sure.

I would look at the Black Arts Toneworks Pharaoh Supreme as opposed to the regular (sorry UC, just my opinion LOL).

Late to the thread, but if you're looking at Tone Benders the Ramble FX Twin Bender is a fucking stunning sounding fuzz on all settings. It covers the standard Mk I.V and Mk II Pro tones, and with the Fat switch engaged on the the I.V mode it's as fat as my Analogman White Dot NKT275 Sun Face, but with more cut.

It doesn't quite have the Sun Face's super smooth singing smokey blurred midrange tone it takes on once you get the Vol and Fuzz up over 3/4 (the sound of Hendrix's amp about to explode sounding lead on Voodoo Child (Slight Return)), it's ruder and more focused/cutting with a coarser midrange grind. But man it fuckin' thumps and grinds deliciously, gets nice and velcro splatty with the bias knob too. Best palm mutes and cut of any fuzz I've ever used, and the only one I can tolerate for long with humbuckers. It actually sounds great with humbuckers, unlike every other fuzz I've ever tried.

I'm also a BAT fan, and love my LSTR. It sounds decent with buckers too, but I really prefer Muffs and Fuzz Faces with hot single coils over humbuckers by a mile. I eventually want to add one of the Pharoahs with the GE clipping option.

Hey, it's not like it's the last fuzz I'll buy, all suggestions are welcome. And that fuzz sounds awesome, I'll check it out. I have noticed as you say, that most of my fuzzes sound better with singles, like my jag. I've been thinking about changing pickups in my SG for a while. Either get a custom pickguard for actual single coils, or just have hum-sized p90s in it

I'm voting a superfuzz as well. The Buzz looks rad, but the new Necromancer from Dwarfercrafters is gonna be my next pedal purchase.

Another vote for a decent tonebender MK2 and a buzzaround. Don't have a lot of experience with either, but those are sort of the missing links in my little collection, and my GAS is growing atm. Don't really have a fuzzface either, but that's okay, never really gotten along with fuzz face types fuzzes. Not enough low end, not a helluva lot of crazy satyration going on, not easy to make em cut through a mix.

The closest I came to loving a fuzz face variant: Zvex Mastotron. But the fact that that pedal has very little in common with the typical fuzz face circuit probably says enough.

My favorite muff: Maxon D&S. An old one that is. After trying a ton of fancy boutique clones and even after owning a mid 70s ehx bmp, that little green d&s turns out to be the one that has the most balls, and doesn't need any useless extra controls to sound good. Too bad it needs to be modded for a led and tb switching, but that's worth it imo.

As far as superfuzzes go, I'm always saying how I love my FZ-2 more than any other 'real' superfuzz clone I tried. But for what you describe, solo shit that cuts through a mix, I'd actually recommend a more vintage correct clone. There's the Wattson, the Byoc Leeds, Maxon sells a REALLY nice one,...But I think the Malekko Omnicron is supposed to be a pretty accurate clone too, and though it obviously lacks a couple controls, it's super small and leaves you with some extra board space.

I'm not a fan of sg's, or gibsons, or even humbuckers, especially not with fuzzes. And the only orange I played that didn't sound meh with fuzz was my vintage OR120 head. So I'm not sure if any of my recommendations would work for you

OCD's are picky about what amp they go into impo, though I guess that's probably the case with any dirt pedal. Medium gain, dark sounding amp: Rat. Bright amp: Hotcake. Or if you can't decide and want to be sure the pedal sounds good with any amp, humbuckerts or single coils, at whatever gain level: The Elements

I wouldn't mind their high gain version with the even sweeter looking graphics and the four controls. Don't wanna spend $200 on it though :s

LOL, this is what I did to mine.



Neck: TV Jones T-Armond (Dearmond single coil clone)
Bridge: BG Pure 90

I love this look and feel of this guitar, but when it had 'buckers it never got played. Now it's my main squeeze. I basically want it as close to a '50s style Gibson as I can get electronically. The original Dearmonds are essentially the same pickup construction wise as the old staple pickups in the '50s Gibsons. Now I need to get some 500K vol and some no load 250K tone pots along with a cpl PIO tone caps.

My Sun Face has a huge low end, it's just too woolly for some applications, and definitely has plenty of saturation. It does the warm singing lead thing incredibly. The bolded part is the only one I'll agree with in regards to that pedal, and it's mostly due to that big warm low end you say FF's seem to lack. If you tighten up the input cap on a Fuzz Face (letting in less lows/low mids proportionally) you essentially have a Tone Bender I.V, and those cut like a mother fucker.
