Your preferred place/method for selling gear

Craigslist round here can be hit or miss. Have done pretty well buying but only so-so selling. Everyone thinks their shit is gold but want to get your stuff for nothing.

I think people overvalue things on CL because they know that buyers will generally try to hammer sellers on price no matter how "reasonable" the asking price is. I've checked out the going rates for use gear at various places and priced my stuff a bit lower and I still get people wanting nearly 40-50% off my asking price. And when I've agreed to meet them halfway, they flake. Maybe it's just my area as it wasn't this much of a hassle when I lived in Dallas.

Yeah I've had pretty good luck selling stuff on Craigslist in terms of getting the prices I want—eventually something does go through. That said, I'm inundated with trade requests, even if I post "ABSOLUTELY NO TRADES" in the ad.

For the most part though, I've only had good luck with really popular stuff on CL, which makes sense. (Strymon, EQD)

I very rarely use Reverb to sell. There have been a ton of just awful things happening to sellers there the past few months. Ebay sucks it hard. Both are way to biased towards the buyer. Especiall with Paypal's 180 day window to file a claim. Sorry fuck a bunch of that. I would much rather sell or trade here at ILF. TGP, and The Reranch forum. Never had any problems on any of the forums. Also it is easier to search a username and see if they have a history of being a flake.

Lots of bogus claims on the part of buyers claiming to have never received items even when a signature was required. Reverb and ebay almost always side with the buyer. The seller is then out money and the item they sold.

I primarily use Reverb to sell online and have adopted new policies since the recent rash of buyer fraud there. It always pays to vet a potential buyer whenever possible, specify enough details in a listing to prevent PayPal complaint scams, only sell to buyers with a comfortable amount of positive feedback as buyers, find a way to make a time/location-stamped record of your packing/shipping process with transactions that seem more risky, and, as others have mentioned, be specific in your return policy about DOA items only. If you choose to use Reverb, be aware there are 2 fees associated with each transaction, the latter of which is billed at the conclusion of each month. Also, the Reverb bump option seems a bit useless IMO unless an item hasn't sold for a significant amount of time, especially given you are billed for bumps at the time of an item's sale regardless of how long its been listed since the point the bumps end. Craigslist in my area is a joke. I only receive inquiries from scammers, flakes, and/or members of the TL;DR generation, who ask redundant questions already answered in an item's listing.

I've been banned a bunch at TGP so I can't post/sell there anymore. That used to yield good results for selling stuff.

I like reverb. Less fees than with eBay.

People there have griped recently about the lack of action on the classifieds, too. Lowballing, no interest, etc.

I finally sold a synth today on CL. It took several months of dealing with flakes and low-balls and I finally had a decent offer from a guy who rents out gear as backline. I like this town, but the local CL is a beating.

I only use Reverb now. I've had around twenty transactions (mostly pedals) and I haven't encountered an issues. I charge a standard shipping rate, ship via UPS, and pay the difference (insurance, etc) myself. Tons of photos, lots of descriptions, no returns. Also, if a pedal is scratched, has velcro or some other superficial issue, I try and get confirmation from the buyer that they're aware of that before I actually ship. I'm pretty compulsive and paranoid, but so far, no problems.

Personally, if someone is selling a used pedal for only ten or so dollars cheaper, I typically don't mind if it's practically brand new. Basically, if the seller is like "I just compulsively bought this and now I can't pay my rent," I get it. They'll essentially get their money back and someone else will get a brand new pedal for a few bucks cheaper- cool beans. If its any older, different story.

What?! Surely if it's been signed for they don't have a leg to stand on? Reverb still sides with them even though IT'S BEEN SIGNED FOR? I've heard of some stupid fucking shit in my time but that takes the biscuit.
