People that like Old Man Gloom and trash Thrice neglect the fact that they pretty much sound like the same band.

Like Vheissu-through-Major/Minor-era Thrice after they were listening to and touring with Russian Circles... their post-metal post-hardcore phase.

I honestly think OMG sounds more like a post-hardcore band than a metal band.

Now Sumac, they're metal.

EDIT: In case it was not clear from this post, I thoroughly enjoy both Thrice and OMG.

Once they got that metal-edged pop punk out of the way on the first two albums, Thrice got pretty great. It was around the time teenagers stopped liking them.The heavy stuff on that 4 part album was the ticket. Stone cold grooves.

I agree with Axel. The Ocean don't suck.
But you know, comparing them to Isis is sort of a non issue?
I always thought the Ocean were more of a prog sort of thing. One of those exercises in technical excellence that you either love or hate. Their song song structure and composition is amazing at points.
Whereas Isis is more of an immersive thing. More about them feels and creating a place to enter to.
Whatever.
