Re: Sunn Model T in a pedal ? (Stoner/psychedelic)
I recently acquired a Murphy Kush, which is a more affordable clone of the EQD Acapulco Gold with an input gain control. It is supposed to be a cranked Sunn Model T in a box, though falls a bit short with my current modeling rig configuration unless I hit the front end with another gain source. The results would probably be better with low wattage tube amplification of some sort.

Did anyone find out if that Correct Sound Custom pre can be used as a proper preamp?
Or is it just a glorified eq?
Looking for something to plug into a power amp.

The Acapulco Gold is really more of a stripped down rat with 386's in it.ck3 wrote:I recently acquired a Murphy Kush, which is a more affordable clone of the EQD Acapulco Gold with an input gain control. It sounds exactly like my 90's-era Distortion + with a volume boost, though.
While on the topic of Sunn pre's.

Re: Sunn Model T in a pedal ? (Stoner/psychedelic)
FWIW, there's actually very little in common between the Acapulco Gold and a RAT. The Acapulco Gold is essentially an LM386 with a gain of 200 smashing another LM386 with a gain of 20 to create clipping, whereas a lot of the clipping from the rat comes from the clipping diodes shunted to ground after the op-amp.jrfox92 wrote:The Acapulco Gold is really more of a stripped down rat with 386's in it.
The Acapulco Gold was, as i perceived it, was supposed to be reminiscent of a Model T, not a Model T in a box so

Sorry, I was really referring to the topology rather than the sound.SquareWaveFuzz wrote:FWIW, there's actually very little in common between the Acapulco Gold and a RAT. As I said, sound-wise it's closer to the Dist.+ IMO.

Also Model T in a box is just pure marketing speak.

No doubt. As is having "ZOMG OMalley uses one of these!" on the website.
But I am contemplating a tube preamp proper that could be used for guitar/bass purposes and doesn't sound terrible.
Strip away the dross and this is a contender.

I just checked out his stuff, looks awesome. That inverter drive sounds particularly appealing.

I really need to get around to making jfet versions of all the Sunn amp schematics I have.
