NGD: Correct Sound MT Tube preamp pedal and other items...

My Model T preamp pedal showed up a few days ago. Initial impressions are that this pedal is built like a tank, and I'm really liking it so far, pretty much completes the tonal spectrum of my 6505+ that I haven't been able to get from various other od's, boosts, eq's, and etc. I'm running it through the effects loop in 4cm through an old Boss ns-2 to bypass my clean channel's preamp, also adds a fat bottom boost to my lead channel, but dont really intend to use it this way as I use that channel to "cut" through mainly. This pedal really brings the bottom end and can get loud. It really shines with dirt box's, all of a sudden my BAT LSTR finally grew a pair, and has instantly became my favorite dirt to use, which is nice considering I've been on the fence about that pedal for sometime now, and was considering including it in an upcoming gear "spring cleaning" sale I'll be having soon. Overall I'm pleased with the purchase considering it's probably the most reckless gear purchase I've ever made, never trying one and not knowing what to expect, but knowing what I was trying to get out of an amp that is high and high-mid dominant, this preamp pedal seemed like it may be the ticket, and so far so good.



As seen in the pic above I also picked up a pedaltrain mini, downgrading from a pedaltrain jr, kinda getting sick of a big board with a bunch of pedals I never use, so going smaller and loaded it with the essentials. Placement was a pain in the ass, but the use of pancake patches was the only way this board was gonna work for me.

Last but not least due to my love for 5150's, 6505's, and 6505+'s, I was able to score one of those cheap china 6505+ 112 combos of the local craigslist, I basically stole it at $175, functions perfectly, but the tolex is all beat to hell which is fine considering I have no intentions on keeping it a combo, have seen a lot of cool head+cabinet mods done to this combo, and I intend to do the same. Luckily for me the fine folks at Weber speakers is only a 20 min drive, and at this time they are building me a Weber Amsterdam 12, and will be supplying me with tolex and various other parts to chop this thing up and mod it, nice little project to welcome in spring, will also provide a review of the Weber Amsterdam after sometime with it, along with some pics of the finished frankenpeavey.

Also whats with the clean channel on this 6505 combo, it absolutely murders the clean channel of its bigger "exspensive american made" brother. I understand theres a power difference, and the schematics to my eye are close, only difference I'm seeing with a brief glance is the effects loop seems quite a bit different, but it T's me off some considering this shitty little combo wins the "clean" battle between the bigger brother considering what I payed for both.

Not really a knock on the LSTR, but mainly the other equipment I use. Have been using somthing from the 5150 line for as long as I can remember and they never seem to like fuzz's,they always seem to sound thin and nasally, probably due to the amps voicing and they also lack headroom. Problem is nothing palm mutes like one, and they have massive amounts of gain, being cheap used is also a plus.

I'll try to get some demos up in a few weeks, re-evaluting alot of gear at this time and downsizing my guitar rig to make space for some synths and a sampler, getting into more ambient playing lately, and looking for some gear to give me some sea-sick modulation, any recommendations on smallish synths is always welcomed also.

So the MT is designed to sound like a Sunn Model T?

As far as I know its made to sound like a model t, its my understanding that its built off of the preamp schematic of a first generation model t. I know a few years ago when I was trying my hand at building a superfuzz clone, I was getting some advice from a certain pedal building forum, and while browsing the forums I noticed one of the members was attempting to shove model t preamp into a pedal, but was having issues sourcing some of the parts and scrapped the idea. I thought it was a great idea at the time, but unfortuneatly an idea was all it was. Glad someone followed up on the concept as a beta+model t preamp pedals started showing up, but was turned off by the high price tag and long shipping times. Honestly if this pedal wasn't already prebuilt and ready to ship, I would've went in a different direction and probably got myself into a BAT superbass pedal.

Can't really give my opinion on how closely this resembles a model t, as I haven't played one in about 15 years, nor have the option to compare this pedal to the original, but my assumption is that it will get you alot closer to the original than the reissue, and do so at a much lower price point.

I ran mine into a mesa power amp briefly. Sounded decent. Ended up selling it due to the fact it needed its own power supply and a ground lift aswell.
