MOD Duo - linux based pedal

Post by Lola »

Hello hello !

I was wondering if there were any early user here of that promising machine ?

I must say I just bought one :yay: , but have to wait until august to receive it ! :grumpy:
It uses lv2 (ladspa v.2) plugins of an open source format, known by linux users, promises so many features it could seem overwhelming. Too bad I didn't participate to the kickstarter campaign. Is there anybody here who already has that pedal who could talk a bit about it ?

Thanks !

That's it exactly. Limitations being : the memory, and that you can only use LV2 plugins (many "high end" plugins already exist in this format).
You can use it like a synth if you plug a midi keyboard and use the good plugin, you can have 2 pedal chains with whatever plugins you want, using it stereo or with two different instruments at the same time... :)

It said it could work with Max/MSP, puredata, etc,but can it work with plugins from, say: Soundtoys? Its not a vst host. Its like an eventide h9, but with the ability to use some other plugin types.

This looks SUPER cool! I could program a super glitchy, pitch-shifting noise delay? I could program a module that just makes fart sounds? It's basically a multi-effect that will do ANYTHING I tell it too????

This is such a cool idea! I just have to learn how to program using C. Which will give me time to raise the money....

Cool! I wonder what the inherent system latency is.

I think the kickstarter pricepoint was the sweet spot. I don't think I can fork over $400 on this. We'll see as more demos roll in. The reason KNOBS is so fantastic is that it generally showcases the weird in each and every pedal. That's what I need. I don't need blues riffs, usually, although justnick and Andy PGS are tolerable and often useful I usually just want the weird.

Totally agree, most of the demos are too classic for the moment. But I'm pretty confident it will be possible to do some crazy things.

Are there any demos of the shit actually being played or just that intro video which confuses me?

Other videos, most for the quadra, not for the duo though (they are almost the same pedal, the quadra being the ancestor of the duo) ,on vimeo or YouTube (not easy to find there). Try to type "mod devices duo (or quadra)". I'll give links when back on my computer

Finally, their first promotional vid ! And a new forum https://forum.moddevices.com/
Also, last days for getting 20% discount off the retail price. Hope for new vids soon...

edit : just read on the mod duo forum "As a side note, although we show a guitar amp in the beginning, the audio is all taken directly from the Duo to the computer sound card."
