Digitech XP-200 to XP-300 Space Station Mod

Post by stilwel »

I'm in the process of converting an XP-200 Modulator into an XP-300 Space Station.

I installed 3 18-pin DIP sockets and the other 3 Tantalum caps the other day. I'm awaiting receipt of the RAM chips coming from China.
I have a burned EEPROM coming from a guy on the DIYstompbox forum. I can't wait to get this all sorted out electrically...then I'll probably strip the pedal and repaint it.

I 'll probably remove the Bypass switch and plastic actuator assembly and replace it with a real momentary switch mounted on a metal plate to cover the holes.

I finished up the mod last week. It works as advertised and sounds great. If you are converting an XP-200 like I did, you need 3 more RAM chips a programmed EEPROM and 3 10uF Tantalum caps. It's super easy to do the mod if you can solder.

I got the RAM from a seller in China. Crazy cheap, but it took 3 weeks shipping time. I got the caps from Digikey.

All of my contact with the EEPROM guy was via PM on the forum so I don't have his info. Can you try to register for the site again? Maybe with a different user ID?

Now this is interesting! I'm always scared the switches on my XP-400 (modded to XP-1000) will crap out. What kind of switches do you need to replace the original ones? Was it an easy mod (is there enough room under the switches inside etc etc?

I used some very inexpensive soft-touch low-profile momentary switches.

Similar to these:

There is plenty of room to install these inside the chassis. It was a relatively easy mod. You just need access to a drill or drill press, a soldering iron, and a piece of thin scrap metal. Oh and some unsoldering/soldering skills. Easy peasy.

Who'd you get the chip from?

Chips are readily available on Ebay. There's a guy on the DIYstompboxes.com forum that will burn the EEPROM for you and only charges $5 return shipping.

This article deals with what is required to convert the Digitech XP-100 into an XP-
100/200/300/400 unit. Via a 4 position selector switch, the user will be able to enjoy the entire
line of the Digitech XP series of pedals, all in one box.

Please do not use the link above for the build doc. It is not the latest version. I've uploaded the latest version, in two parts (server restriction) here;

Pages 1 to 33: http://www.aronnelson.com/gallery/main. ... emId=51928

Pages 33 to 67: http://www.aronnelson.com/gallery/main. ... emId=51931

This was my last updated version, dated 10/09/15. Disregard any versions with dates preceeding this, as they either contain errors, or important additional information gathered from subsequent builds, and builder input.
