Re: Electro Harmonix MIG Reissue
MIG50 is like a bassman/plexi arrangement, 100 is a JCM affair, so it's good to hear they kept it true to the original in character.
If you're looking for more balls, I recommend you run into both channels and blend to taste.

ok, opened her up a bit more. i have mine running into the alnico speakers of my ac30hw at 16ohms. past 2 and youre in band territory, at 4 its pretty room shaking, so i hope nobody buys it thinking it could be something of a bedroom amp because NOPE, itll roar. but i was also trying it out with an old univox hi-flyer thats running some very hot pickups, so i should try it again with something a little flatter and some basic fenders. i tossed a Tym Beauty & Ruin in front of it and momma like.

Yeah dude, they are loud as fuck.
I wonder if the new ones are still throwing 600 odd volts at the plates?

Oh, and plug into input I, get yourself an Ape Blaster, and rock the fuck out. Those two were made for each other.

Re: Electro Harmonix MIG Reissue
I'm guessing the MIC build is gonna be pretty close to that gut shot--you don't set up a fab'ed PCB like that to do it again unless it's a correction. The off-board heater wiring will probably be very helpful to minimize noise in the production amp. Transformers for the US version are probably gonna be better than the production amp, but chances are swapping a meh stock OT out for an affordable MIA one from Classictone could get you a very good sounding amp for dirt cheap.
Any word on pricing and timing for the production version?

Re: Electro Harmonix MIG Reissue
That makes sense I guess. The main reason why I automaticly panic when I see "made in China" on an amp, beside the OT, is the tubes. Stupid me didn't emmediately realise that a chinese EH amp will NOT come with chinese tubesGone Fission wrote:I'm guessing the MIC build is gonna be pretty close to that gut shot--you don't set up a fab'ed PCB like that to do it again unless it's a correction. So in a way I'd kinda get the best of both worlds with this one: chinese price tag, russian tubes

Re: Electro Harmonix MIG Reissue
my guess would be the same $595, and i heard some murmors that theyre anxious to get moving on them. and yeah, with all the solderless connections, i would say this is probably a pretty modification friendly amp.Gone Fission wrote:I'm guessing the MIC build is gonna be pretty close to that gut shot--you don't set up a fab'ed PCB like that to do it again unless it's a correction. Re: Electro Harmonix MIG Reissue
oh fuck. just looked at those pics. user adjustable fixed bias controls; a feature that should not only be found on *some* boutique amps.

Re: Electro Harmonix MIG Reissue
Those are really not great parts in that bias adjustment assembly. When you see user-adjustable bias on most amps you'll see an RV4 locking pot on the exterior of the amp, not a tiny plastic trim that will break with a little too much pressure from a rookie. All those solderless connectors are potential failure points too. Sometimes those are useful but in this case its really an undesirable practice. Especially places like the speaker and power supply connections.
