Re: Let's see your BASS VI, people
Finally bought one of the VIs and it's really fun to play. Not sure if it's an instrument to instrument thing but I played one at a shop several weeks ago and the intonation was awful. This one plays and is intonated quite well. Totally stock, too. White with tortoise shell.

Instrument to instrument, plus "did the shop do any setup?" (they usually don't).
Despite what half the Internet wants to sell you, they're fine on their own with no upgrades if you don't tune down a ton.

Yeah they're totally good on their own. I like the staytrem bridge on mine but it's a luxury and far from necessary. Glad you're enjoying it!

I personally had issues intonating my VI with the stock bridge. It simply wasn't adjustable enough. The saddle on the low E couldn't go any further in the direction I needed it to go.
The nut on the Squiers are also made of incredibly soft plastic. Those are the two upgrades I suggest to anyone looking to grab a VI. Oh, and thicker strings.

Though I didn't think a bridge upgrade was necessary in the first, it became a necessity over time as the stock one slowly got worned out. Screws wouldn't hold in place and such.
Also yeah, strings. Stock ones are terrible. I now use the same gauge but from d'Addario which work fine IMO.

Deets on the dunable??? Heres mine:BoatRich wrote:Probably in the middle. I ended up going with a custom Dunable though hopefully lolChuckchuck wrote:Interesting idea. Alumitone in neck or bridge?BoatRich wrote:Has anyone made a Mustang VI? I really want to build one. I was thinking a single p-90 or Alumitone humbucker and in Sherwood Green or Shoreline Gold. Probably a hardtail bridge because I play in drop C# and the bridge on my Squier is annoying me even after the Staytrem.
I went w/ the Knuckle 30" scale, to put on a Tele body. I have the Squier VM P90's but not sure if I leave it Esquier-style, or get the ebay P90 1-ply pickguard, or P90 bridge only/Esquier style. I'll post when completed.
Question: I'm using the same Tele bridge, correct? No need for wider spacing with bass-vi strings?

It got put on the back burner for now because I ran into some bills. It's gonna be a forest green stained yeti, swamp ash with a maple neck, p-90's and a mastery bridge/tremSPACERITUAL wrote:Deets on the dunable??? Heres mine:BoatRich wrote:Probably in the middle. Im not the biggest fan of the pickups. They're really hot. Its not so bad on the dirty channel but its absolute torture sometimes on the clean channel. If you have a heavy pick hand and hot pickups the meatsmoke will punch you in the face regularly.
Its the greatest amp ever. The only thing i regret is not getting a reverb tank put in it. Also i got a 100 watt switch and fuck if I've ever used it.

Same for me. Mine started out fine, but just seemed to gradually get worse, and the more I tried to set it up, the more unplayable it got. Then some of those tiny saddle screws just rumbled out on their own and got lost in my carpet somewhere.Disarm D'arcy wrote:Though I didn't think a bridge upgrade was necessary in the first, it became a necessity over time as the stock one slowly got worned out. Since getting the Staytrem, the difference is like night and day. It feels much more robust, the intonation is perfect. I didn't realise how much noise that stock bridge was making. Those springs vibrating just seemed to create a pretty nasty whistling sound that sounded awful when amplified.
Genuinely one of the best upgrades I've made on any guitar. So worth the money to turn a pretty good instrument into an awesome instrument.

Buddy's in a sludge band and both bassist and guitarist play through 'Smokes. I got to play my VI through his 8x10" refrigerator cab yesterday. Sounded utterly massive.SPACERITUAL wrote:Chuckchuck wrote:Cool. I want a Meat Smoke too. How does it sound through that amp?

Bass VI through huge cabs is for sure the way to go. I'm using a 215 and a 412 at all times.
