My Mikey Way is coming in ~9lbs.

Re: Bass Weight
I have no idea what my MTD 435 weighs but it's the most comfortable bass I've had next to my old Roscoe. Bongo's are nice in the weight department as well.

Re: Bass Weight
I weigh myself holding bass then without bass. Scale won't work w bass itself. It's one of those digi jobs. I can play heavy basses but ill pay for it later in back spasm as I'm doing right now. Sucky.

Re: Bass Weight
Just play sitting down. Weight is almost a non issue to me when I'm sitting down. Although I've developed some very bad technique habits from playing this way, it's still my prefered method. I only stand if I'm really rocking out, but I just am too lazy most of the time. LOL

Re: Bass Weight
I have a folding stool it helps. Not very punk rock.
Soft maple? I didn't know bodies made of soft maple but I know it isn't light.

I guess it's true what they write about the mids but I thought it was just a jazz bass thing. Good pickups btw.
I have to take a router to it I don't care. Let's hope I don't ruin all the glorious tone that they describe. Arguments for & against body mass relation to characteristics. Who knows.
I love the neck love the tone just not the weight.

Re: Bass Weight
I remember Ovation with the plastic back & leaves on the front.
I added a musicman pickup to my jazz bass. I also drilled 1,000 holes under the pickguard (they don't show with it on) I figured an expensive bass maker has chambered bass bodies so why not. The MM pickup is incredible makes all pickups ive ever had obsolete. Otherwise the weight was lighter before I put the heavy pickup in. That's a wash. Unplugged it seems louder; plugged in I can't tell if the chambers make a difference bc that MM pickup is so potent.
ebmm pickups kick ass. I want to try them in Broncos or other ply & basswood bodies. I doubt weight matters outside of causing back aches.

Re: Bass Weight
No clue. I do know that I used to prefer basses that are body heavy, after I got my T Bird and played a gig with it I didnt even notice.
Something I think about that I think is worth metioning is even if it doesnt mess you up now it might mess you up later on after a bunch of shows. Something to think about I suppose.

Re: Bass Weight
Well I prefer balance, if that means a heavier body to get rid of neck dive, I'm all for it.
But the older I get, the more thankful I am that my bass weighs less than 9lbs. This is coming from a guy that lifts all the time! LOL! My fucking back can't take it!
I love Bongos though. I could stand and jam on one of those mofo's all day.

I've never played one. Are they very light?
