Well, if that's the case, why aren't we rocking out in one wasteful and amazing bacchanalian orgy right now?

Yes, that's a good point. And you see that in Europe.

overpopulation won't be a problem if and when enough women in the world receive adequate education. we definitely have room and resources for more people, but only if our status quo changes a lot.

I mean it's also an argument for eugenics that I'm not entirely comfortable with, but that's a whole different kettle of fish.

Possibly the better question is: why wouldn't you leave?

I'm not sure exactly what you're saying, but whatever it is, I probably don't agree with it. :idk:

I don't believe in the whole population control thing. I've had people tell me to my face I'm irresponsible for having three kids. How about fuck you? That's my answer to that. I want a family, that's my choice.

We wouldn't run out of resources if our world wasn't so greedy with them. It's unstoppable at this point though. India and China out breed any of us by far. They are overpopulated.

I don't see what any of this has to do with the Presidency though? Unless one of them is pro population control?

I wouldn't leave for many reasons to answer DOS.

I think I live in one of the greatest countries in the world despite it's many faults. My entire family is here. My roots are here. I just couldn't leave at the drop of a hat. Now if we had a complete collapse of society, I'd want to leave. I doubt I'd be able to. People would be turning us away at that point I'm sure.

Good link. I'm definitely in favor of better education for all. Especially women.

With the rate of growth of world population, I don't really think we have enough room or resources to go around though.

jwar, I'd never tell an idividual that they're irresponsible for having kids. There's a biological urge to breed, yo.

It's part of a greater societal problem though. You're saying that China and India are overpopulated, bro, but there's only one world. If they're overpopulated, we're overpopulated. It's our problem too. You know, "It's A Small World (After All)" and shit like that?

World population has to do with this Presidential election because it's an important aspect of our foreign policy. Everything's interconnected. Resources, lack of resources, conflicts over resources, resolution of said conflicts, the repercussions of those conflicts, etc, etc.

If we don't give humanitarian aid to people in war-torn countries, they pack up and migrate elsewhere. That causes other problems. One thing leads to another.

yeah that initial comment was easy to be taken out of context, haha, but the link touches on the right ideas. women in developing countries forming families at a young age whether by choice or against their own will where a proper secondary education hasn't been provided is a serious problem.
jwar wrote:I don't see what any of this has to do with the Presidency though? Unless one of them is pro population control?
it's important to bring up because any candidate that's serious about the future of your country and the rest of the world needs to be talking about this issue, because it's something that NEEDS to be talked about and a lot of people are totally oblivious to it, or at least at their ability to make a difference.

If you can afford to raise three children with an acceptable standard of living and provide them with education and the ability to make their own choices in life, you have every right to have three (or more) kids and nobody has the right to tell you otherwise. Population control shouldn't be a global standard and proposing strategies for it should not be equated to "you can't have kids anymore". That's obviously not going to work.
The problem is people who either cannot provide adequately for their children, who have children as a means to ensure they are cared for when they can no longer work or other personal gain, who have children unintentionally or for welfare benefits, or who lack the mental capacity to raise children at all but still stubbornly insist on procreating. Which is a SHIT TON OF PEOPLE.
Also, you can certainly blame countries like India and China for embracing economic growth until population becomes a crippling problem, but the USA (and Australia, and many European countries for instance) are still the highest consumers of energy, food and any other resource per capita, so our population doesn't have to reach into the billions before it starts collapsing in on itself.

I think humanity will just have to change our way of life to make it sustainable, I believe it's totally possible if we all work together. On a global scale we're all rich, it's just not in the right hands currently, imagine all the money and resources people waste on useless shit, certainly we could put it all in a big pile and have plenty to go around. also driving around the US makes me realize how much room we really do have, of course a hypothetical mass relocation is hard to image right now, but maybe in the future it might be necessary depending on how climate change goes in the next few decades, I believe there's over a billion people who are likely to be displaced by rising water levels in the near future.
